Anyone tried the Z5600a

Have any of you tried the SE Z5600a mic? I bought one of the SE 5000 about 3 years ago and could never use it....even after sending it in for repair. I currently use a Studio Projects C1. Any comments are welcome!

Are you sure the mic is getting phantom power? It is a condenser and will need +48V.

Yes...in fact is uses it's own external power supply. When I say I could never use it...I should clarify and say it would work at times then suddenly drop in db. I don't think I ever completely got through a spot without a drop out.

it is a Chinese mic, and sometimes you're gonna get a dud. I had the SE Gemini, dual tube mic. Whoa. Awesome. Generally, the word on SE mics is good.

The Apex 460 tube is getting a lot of rave reviews. Comparable to the Telefunken M16.

A friend of mine got the Apex. A/B'd it with a u87 thru the old Symetrix 528. I couldn't tell the difference. In fact...if I HAD to choose...the Apex gets the nod.

Tried it...LOVED IT. They have a 7 day trial period...just test-drive it.

I think it sounds fantastic. Out of all the mics I have, I've thought about selling one or two and getting one of these...
