Anything New on The Capital Public Radio Front?

Not specific to Sacramento given there are staffing cuts at multiple NPR affiliates across the country.

The last update related to CapRadio was when there was a proposal that PBS Affiliate KVIE-TV would become a license holder and get managing rights of KXJZ and KXPR Sacramento if the proposed idea became true.

It seems likely that Sac State will retain CapRadio for the time being. I was listening and heard what could be a testimonial from a donor thanking Sac State for helping CapRadio find financial stability.

Based on what’s been reported here in addition to that, I’d find it tough to believe Sac State will not continue to operate the stations for the immediate future.

Seems that way..

If CapRadio as it currently stands can't survive I'd love to see Sac State hand control over to the students while going to a volunteer community based freeform format similar to KDVS 90.3 fm at UC Davis but that sort of thing actually happening seems highly unlikely. It's what CapRadio should have been all along though.

The phrase "that sort of thing actually happening seems highly unlikely" is the part of your statement which rings the most true to me. Those stations are never going back to student operations; public radio in general has been moving away from that for decades now, and with Sacramento being a top 30 market, it especially isn't likely to reverse there.
