Anything new on the Houston happenings?

I know KTRK-13 has been working on their transmitter as evident by their low power during the day it seems. My Echostar DTVPal DVR had them at only 73% for most of the last two days but now they are back up at 90% this evening.

Same with KUHT-8, as they are on and off the air occasionally. Currently receiving them at 85% near Clear Lake.

Wikipedia on KNWS-51 "KNWS is owned by Johnson Broadcasting and is not currently affiliated with any broadcast network. However, station managers are in talks with RTN about affiliation via a secondary digital channel."

Still in talks, I thought they were all set? And what's up with their signal as it's non-existent. I still can't recieve them.

KHLM-43 has added multiple subchannels but is anyone watching? Main channel is hispanic, second channel seems to be african-american (english) related (what is this channel called?), third channel (english as well) is all infomercials all the time (cool! ::) ) and lastly the fourth is hispanic religion.

Finally, KTBU-55 has 55.1, 55.2, 55.3 and 55.5 but what about 55.4? Interesting.

Okay, I'm done just hasn't been alot on the Houston DTV region lately here on this forum and I thought I would try and get this going again.

Thanks!

With channel 10 and channel 43 both broadcasting with multiple channels, KHLM has far more channels than they should ever need. Interestingly, they only have a construction permit for channel 43 to broadcast in digital; it seems like they shouldn't be broadcasting yet. They are carrying two copies of the Multimedios feed (10.1 and 43.1), an african american network called "mbc" according to the branding (43.2), two channels of infomercials (43.3 and 10.4), something religious in Spanish (43.4), a music channel in English called TheCoolTV (10.3), Gems TV home shopping (10.4), a test pattern (10.2), and a black screen (10.6).

55.4 was broadcasting a black screen with the channel name "Service", but it disappeared around the time 55.5 started broadcasting.

KNWS's website says they will be adding RTN soon. Unfortunately, their signal is nearly impossible to receive (even K10PY-D, low power from Freeport, comes in easier), so it probably won't be very helpful.

Perhaps it's because I haven't re-scanned in a week or so, but I am still receiving 55.4, blank, named "service".

I can never bring in Ch. 10 and I'm in the Clear Lake area.

Anyone fathom what's gonna pop up on 55.4? Russian maybe? And no I'm not joking. :-\

That's probably it. I am rescanning daily, always hoping for RTN.

Nothing irregular there. They're operating under Program Test Authority and should file their license application shortly for the digital facilities. It's not uncommon for stations, especially full-service, to operate on Program Test Authority for months, even years, before finally being granted a license.

KNWS has upped their power slightly, and I do mean slightly (showing 69% up from 53 on my TV). I can get them uninterrupted now but it's still considerably lower than anything else in Houston.

I noticed this morning that channels 8.7 and 8.8 showed up.. although both were blank. Anyone have any idea was that means?

I was trying again this morning to pick up KNWS but no luck again... I assume that they are still having problems with the transmitter? I would like to see Retro TV whenever it debuts, or maybe it already has but no one can see it because the transmitter is not working. I still am not sure how to pick up KNWS even after the transmitter is working, since KTMD is PSIP as 47.1, when I punch in 47.1 it just takes me to KTMD.

Channel 13 also was not coming in for me this morning, but I was receiving 8 and 11 on VHF well. Is Channel 13 still working on their transmitter?

I know Channel 26 is still operating at lower power but it was coming in fine for me.

And I don't understand why 55 skipped over 55.4. I did notice that their were local commericals on the Vietnamese programming on 55.2 (for a vietnamese mobile phone plan)--but they had 713 and 281 phone numbers so I assume it was a local commercial even though I couldn't understand what was being said.

I've had those for awhile. My TV picks them up just says "can't be decoded" whatever that means. I pick up a 13.5 as well that has the same programming as 13.1.

RTN or RTV, they are called both is not on the air as of yet. KNWS is at 47.2. Originally before the changover KNWS-51 was to be at 47.1 and RTN 47.2 but now they will stand at 51.1 and 51.2.

I suspect they are because during the day for the past week or so they've shown up at only 73% on my TV. At night when I suspect the work is over my signal jumps to 90%. I dunno what's been going on but their's lots of complaints on their ABC13.com website saying people can't bring them in.

Russian TV could be coming. That's the only thing I could think of really.

8.7 and 8.8 are part of the UpdateTV service, which carries firmware updates for some brands of TVs.

Will KNWS ever get things in gear?

Seems like this station is run by the Three Stooges. The picture is lousy (when you can receive it), the signal is horrid, and still no Retro TV. Is this how Johnson Broadcasting runs the station in Dallas as well because TV51 is a joke.

The June 12 deadline stated all full-power stations had to go digital but it didn't say how powerful they had to be right?

Well, KNWS is finally a steady 60 on my signal meter and has been all day long. While this is a pitiful signal it comes in with no breakups and while this station shows very little that is worthwhile besides infomercials the signal works for RTN (if that is ever in fact added).

Lately it seems the station has been basically off the air (it has not) because the signal strength has been so low hardly anyone can receive them. Usually I get somewhere around a 50 but then it goes to 0 and it just keeps repeating this process again and again.

Now I'm not saying KNWS won't upgrade their signal in the future, just that I've never read anything to the degree about how powerful one's station has to be since the changeover. If this is as good as it gets and it very well could be (I called KNWS on June 12 and they said they were working on it) then at least here in Clear Lake we can get them via over the air antenna for Retro TV.

Can anyone answer this question for me?

Channel 55.2 or sometimes 55.5 has a nighttime hospital drama on at 10:00, does anyone know the name of that drama (it is all in Vietnamese or Korean), does it come in DVD and with English subtitles? This may be silly, but my family has gotten addicted to watching it, even though we cannot understand it verbally, we can understand little pieces of it, by looks, or other little nuances. I also know that we have seen it on Saturday afternoons recapping the episodes from the week. As of last night it was on #21, I believe.

Any help with info would be good. ???
