Anything new with MRS Ventures?

Jerry Russell doesn't want anyone around who may be even slightly smarter than he is. That's why he hired Andy Hodges.

Jerry Russell was probably able to make such a good deal for Cleveland because he knew he would get along with someone as pompous and arrogant as he is. That's why he bought from Larry Fuss.

Excuse you? I sure hope you aren't referring to Larry Fuss being pompous and arrogant.. he's got tons of expierience and very successfull....

Excuse you Paul...

This coming from a guy whose claim to fame is being on The People's Court and working at WQMA...

Okay so he sold those stations and made a ton of money.

He's still as pompous and arrogant as they come... Just read his posts on here. I spent more than a few minutes in Cleveland. Word around there these days is that Fuss is telling people not to pay their bills at MRS Ventures because "he will have the stations back real soon..."

Some things never change....

I've never claimed any fame from that. However, after the show aired on NATIONAL TV>... alotta people recognzied my name. That's besides the point.

Larry is tough and stern, but fair.... I talk to him on a semi regular business man. He's someone whos smart, made good investments and done well for himself, IMHO.

I'd love to have a radio station in a vacation spot.. wouldn't you?

Me, pompous and arrogant? Not quite. I believe in calling things and I see them. I believe freedom is speech is still allowed in this country. (However, give George W. a little more time and he'll find a way to restrict that too).

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm not pompous and arrogant, but I believe there's a right way and a wrong way to do things, and when you do things half-assed, you get half-assed results. Sadly, that's the way most radio stations operate these days. MRS Ventures stations are just more half-assed than most. (Is there such a thing as quarter-assed?)

I have never told anyone not to pay their bills with MRS Ventures. First of all, they have hardly any business on-air anyway. Secondly, I don't care who pays them and who doesn't. Give me one name of a person I told not to pay their bill. You can't, because I didn't. You sir, are a liar! At the very least, you are spreading lies that were started by someone at MRS. I was also accused to circulating an anonymous letter to businesses in Cleveland in which it was alleged that Jerry Russell had killed his wife. It was probably a disgrunted employee, and there were dozens of them. Sending anonymous letters is just not my style. I don't even post on Radio-Info under an assumed name, like some of the losers and wannabees on here.

A ton of money? I wish. After 11-1/2 years of hard work, I got a litle bit when I sold the stations, but not "a ton of money."

I don't want the stations back. They're far too screwed up to ever resurrect. Besides, been there, done that. And I've had enough of "the Delta mentality" to last me a lifetime.

Wow! Paul was on "People's Court?"

Paul, what were you being sued for, and did you win?

As for MRS Ventures...Larry's claim that they are quarter... is giving them too much credit. MRS puts very little effort into local sales, and even less effort in keeping the stations on the air. When I worked there (not in MS), the salesman played solitaire on the computer all day while the sales manager/VP played Free Cell. The only sales they handled were incoming agency buys. They were far to busy to bother themselves with small-time local advertisers...hence a station that billed 80,000/month slowly declined and is now no longer on air.

And don't even get me started on the traffic mgr (not VP) who would put accounts in her name while the salesman was still on staff. He never knew she stole his accounts because salesmen never get collections reports, per MRS policy.

Wow, Joey's post stroke a vein of Anger within me that I was unaware still existed. Looks like its back to the prayer closet for me.

*sighs* I got sued for losing some guys airchecks and.. I lsot *no joke*

> Me, pompous and arrogant?

Well, even if you were, Larry... as Dizzy Dean once said, "it ain't bragging if you can do it."

WDTL is still on-air, although more often than not, it's just dead air. Last I heard, the transmitter was only putting out about 25% power. Even if they could afford a new tube, nobody there even knows where the transmitter site is ;-)
