AOL Video now airing P&G-produced classic soaps

http://videobeta.aol.com/video-category/procter-and-gamble-classic-soaps/5000_1683_1744

The Procter & Gamble Classic Soaps channel on AOL Video has debuted this week, beginning with eps from 25+ years ago of Another World, The Edge of Night, and AW's second spin-off Texas. The eps don't include opening/closing sponsor tags There are a few behind-the-scenes clips and interviews from Guiding Light, as well. According to the press release, the channel is also supposed to show eps of Search for Tomorrow also, but currently aren't part of the lineup. No word on how this arrangement affects current or future re-airings of Another World on SoapNet, if at all.

I went to AOL Video over the weekend and looked at some of these. I wish Procter and Gamble would release the rights to those old shows to SoapNet...for a while, there was a rumor that PGP was starting its own cable channel with classic daytime TV...

I hope at some point P&G releases the episodes of As The
World Turns and Guiding Light from roughly 1988-93, especially
ATWT. One of the great soap head writers, the late Doug Marland,
was head writer on ATWT at the time; his mingling of the ultra-rich
Walshes, the middle-class Hugheses, and the farm-family Snyders
was a joy to watch. And GL's head writer, Pam Long, brought in
the character of Harley about this time; it would be interesting, too,
to see Roger Thorpe's return (around '89, when he was going around
with a mask and calling himself Adam Malik) and the interaction between
Fletcher and Alexandra.

Several Search for Tomorrow eps have now been added, but you have to use the search function at the top of the page to find them; hopefully the websters will fix that glitch later. Also a few behind-the-scenes/recaps videos are available now for As the World Turns, but the search function must be used for these as well for now.

I've heard something to the effect that classic full eps of As the World Turns and Guiding Light won't be available on AOL Video because the shows are still in production and not cancelled like the other soaps that are getting the full-ep treatment online.
