AP Piece on FCC Targeting KCBS

How an AM radio station in California weathered the Trump administration's assault on media

Sad to see Bret Burkhart being demoted and eventually leaving the station for reporting on something already happening and publicly known. He’s a solid, well-respected guy who deserved better.
True and also KCBS/KFRC-FM’s all news sister stations in other parts of the country aired similar situations about ICE in their part of the country through their articles and what their news team said on the air. Once that was brought up here we ended up with the George Soros rants about Audacy from allies of Brendan Carr and Trump.

The biggest tragedy is that the scrutinized media (mostly) chose to cave into Trump's demands. If they hadn't done so, we might well be looking at a U.S. President who is in much greater trouble than he is in now. While it is true that the U.S. Supreme Court has sided with this President on almost every issue that has come before it, the lower courts mostly have not and the President has had to choose the battles he's going to take to the U.S. Supreme Court.

And for those media companies who made deals with the President? He just made more demands on them. For example, he used his social media site to complain about "60 Minutes'" Lesley Stahl interview with Republican Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene who made some major and very deserved) criticisms of him. He is also taking his tour of retribution international by suing the BBC, and I'm hoping they have a greater spine than the U.S. commercial networks did. But that excellent international outlet could be held in check by the British prime minister so we'll have to wait and see.

OK, why is KCBS referenced as an AM only station by the writer. Most listeners are on FM. I don't think the writer realizes there is an AM/FM simulcast.

I think we talked a lot about this at the time, and someone noticed that Brett is now in San Diego.

The government licenses these stations. It's all about protecting the license. It says so if you ever buy stock in a broadcasting company.

The people elected this government. It's up to the people to call it for what it is. But the public doesn't like the media either.

That’s right. Bret moved south to San Diego in September to serve as the new co-anchor of KOGO-AM’s weekday morning local newscast. Bret Burkhart Joins KOGO Morning News
