AP/Yahoo news on absence of country in NYC

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051111/ap_en_mu/music_country_free_radio

"Not having a station in New York is "the largest nagging problem for country music," said Tom Taylor, editor of the trade publication Inside Radio.

"The Country Music Association agrees. Their annual awards show is being held to New York for the first time Tuesday; organizers acknowledge their move from Nashville to New York is tied to finding a radio home (and creating a marketing arm) in the Big Apple."

101.1 will be playing Frankie Lymon again before there is a successful country outlet in NYC. It just wont work. <P ID="signature">______________

I don't understand why it has to be the "largest nagging problem". Country is thriving in so many different markets, big and small, North, South, East and West. I say country doesn't need NYC. NYC is an immigrant driven international city, Country is NOT international, it's America's music.

If you want to talk about International Music, turn no futher than to Rap Music. It's worldwide and has mass appeal.

P.S. I am glad that Country isn't heard in NYC. You are blessed not to have it and aren't missing very much. Here in Central Alabama, we have too many Country music stations. When I surf by them, I hear the following, people speaking about getting high and drunk, making love to everyone they meet and using cuss words like a sailor. I am also reminded of our nation's ugly past when I am surfing by a Country radio station. It is for those reasons listed that I detest Country. Yes, I am from the South and feel that Country has served it purpose here in America and wish it would just go away. If you are looking for the real music, check out Hip-Hop. It's the international music, with an international attitude. I don't listen to the gansta parts of it but I am glad that there are many rappers that are using this international music, to help Preach the Gospel to the masses. We need more people like TobyMac, T-Bone, Souljaz, Original Gospel Ganstaz, John Reuben, Righteous Ryders, Michael Peace, Grits, ETW, The Preacherzholics, Sean Slaughter, Ziglag, ShonLock, Kirk Franklin, FTF, M.O.C. and The Crossmovement, in the music industry. I am happy to say that many more Christian Rappers are coming out with fresh new rhymes and lyrics, to help change our nation and world for the better.

I don't believe it won't work. It worked when WHN was there for all those years. They played Country, the Eagles and CCR......
I know because I listened and I was only a kid!

> These days New Yorkers aren't missing much.

Amen to that. Country and NYC will never mix. The values associated with and presentation of the music, are a turn off to the whole NYC culture.

NYC is better off without Country on the airwaves.
