It's really just a C-3 running 11.5 kw @ 475 feet--like a B-1 up north. Better than a Class A, but nothing like a real Class C. He's got enough to cover the Apalachicola-Carrabelle Metroplex... Port St. Joe on a good day... and a ton of water. Er, watter.

Like Tibbs said in one of these threads, if you could pay cash and run it as a mom & pop, this could be cool. If not, well... it could still be cool for a few years...

The market is too small for a AAA format. Most major markets struggle with AAA.

Oops, my bad. I read 100.5 to say 106.5. Since there was a thread going about six weeks back concerning WOCY 106.5 being for sale I just assumed this thread was about the same station. I'm not sure that it makes much difference that it was the little station, WOYS 100.5, that sold. With Apalachicola being such a compact out-of-the-way market I assume 100.5, 104.5, and 105.5 are all in par with the big 100000 water watter on 106.5.

I thought one of the Oyster stations was running Oyster Country. 100.5 is listed as AC and it appears the Big Bend doesn't even have a country station of its own. Think the buyer of 100.5 might flip it to Country? I think a classics heavy Country station would be a good fit in Apalachicola, Wewa, Carrabelle and Sopchoppy.

Oyster Country was originally on WOCY 106.5, the class C1 100kw signal. The format changed to CHR when all the Oyster group stations were sold following the death of the previous owner. WOYS 100.5 C3 has always been some form of adult contemporary.

That story sounds familiar. It does seem odd that no station stepped up to fill the country void. I assume 106.5 flipped to Top 40 because that was what the new owner was interested in playing. This is Dixie, Country should have been doing well on 106.5.

I wonder if Apalachicola could be a unique enough market to do a CHR - Country hybrid? Or maybe more realistically a Country - Oldies hybrid? At least it would be a cool place for 100.5 to test such a beast.
