Apex's New CP - this time, WWAV

I'd guess from looking at this that it's more about getting further east since both are for 50kw... they might have to protect someone to the east, so this would buy them a little more distance in that direction.

Plus if this is a move to an existing tower to save money, it might just be a function of what they have to work with.

According to your radio info link WWAV actually completed the move to Hollywood blvd. Did this actually happen? I thought that app was dismissed. Too close to 102.1 in Mobile Alabama and WAMI 102.3 in Opp Alabama.

The current tower is just east of Sandestin and is next to WSBZs tower. You can see both from Highway 98 and it covers fine down toward Laguna Beach and Sunnyside. There would be no reason to try to push the signal into PCB. I could see them wanting to cover west a little more, but even to try to slam Navarre and Rob would be about it for potential advertising coverage. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that current stand alone tower is either to expensive to rent (but I think it's part of the assets of WWAV) or it's about to fall down and it's a bit to swampy (and I know snakey) etc. So they just found space on another tower and that was the max height?? I dunno on any of this. CCENG might know.

I'm too lazy to look it up on FCC.gov, but Rob's radio locator link shows current WWAV facilities on one of the Hollywood Blvd towers where Highway 98 and 99 Rock broadcast from with a CP to move down to Sandestin. My guess is that the CP is for the tower WWAV has always been hanging off of at Grand Boulevard in San Destin. Maybe to correct a mistake in the database?

They're moving back to the same tower they were on before the move to Hollywood Blvd.

I don't know the reasoning, but one of two possibilities have come up: there's a technical issue at the Hollywood Blvd site that would be too expensive to fix or they had to refurb the tower near Mack Bayou for a while and it was easier to move the entire thing to Hollywood Blvd for some reason.

Normally when a station does tower work, they switch to an already-licensed aux site, or lower the power at the main site, or at worst get an STA since tower work doesn't usually take very long. I can't imagine what's really happened here but I'll see what I can find out.
