Aphex 2020 MkIII value?

Anyone know what a used Aphex 2020 Mk III would be worth on the market?
Not sure what the "as new" price was either! Thanks for any help...

Anywhere between 4,500-6,000 I would guess, depending on features, aes/ebu, etc etc.

>aprils fools day was april 1st.you are joking about that price.the most i saw one go for was 2500.00 and some bringing 1800.00..stations on the west cost could not give these things away.i got 2150.00 for mine and said grace over that.the omnia 6 and now the dsp-xtra just blows this box away.Aphex had one great product, the compellor but that's old hat now with the new digital Ariane leveler...heck, my old omnia 3t made toast out of the Mark 3 in a side by side comparison.hey processing today is in the DSP and that's a fact jack..IMHO

The Aphex box sucks if you want any loudness. I would rather have a 8100.

When set up correctly, the 2020 MkIII can be a great sounding box. It won't win any killer loudness wars, but it doesn't have the digital grunge like any of the digitized Orban boxes.

One flaw I've noticed is that it's own built-in leveler is not up to snuff with a Compeller. I would set the internal leveler to be defeated and put a Compeller in front.

I've used these in "anti-Digital" processing chains (where the operators didn't want digital grunge) and they can be make to sound very good. It's like anything else, a skillful engineer and a little talent can make it sound super ... just not the box if you want to hang the needle on the mod monitor!

As far as value, hell, I would have gladly bought a MKIII for $2150!

I've seen a mkIII priced in that range in the past 3 months in a classified.

Don't know if that's what it commanded or not...but if anyone knows of a MKIII for 2k, that's a heck of a price.

I'm an Omnia 6 fan, personally. I was an early adopter of the Arianne in 2001, gotta agree. I'd love to try a dsp-x with Arianne.

I heard the Aphex 2020 MKIII in a demo once. The highs were way too busy for my liking and I couldn't tame them. The whole thing sounded too clippy if you got loud. I thought it had good bass and decent punch.

I can tell you, the DSP-X and all of the BW processors far outperform their price. I have off air samples of DSP-X/Ariane Sequel vs just about everything else and it can sound as good and in most cases better. Perhaps those other processors would sound better if they had the right set of ears setting them up, but all I know is that the way I set it up, the DSP-X can sound as loud or as open as you want.

Everyone who has used DSP-X cannot believe the quality vs price and that is a fact. I look forward to the DSP-Xtreme. It's looks REALLY good, check them out at NAB if you are going.
