Aphex 230 Voice processor

I have a friend that just installed this on air. He say's it's great!

Any opinions?
 
I hear from many engineer friends it is a good Mic. Processor. Actually when building my home studio a friend in MN said to get that for my rooom. I opted for no processor and a Mackie Onyx board that sounds just fine. A bit pricey but apparently worth it.

It's a bit cheap for on-air uses, since all radio stations have tons of money to spend on top of the line equipment for their prod studios and on air control rooms. ;) Right? No... Ok....

I'm heavily debating between the 230 and the Focusrite Platinum VM Pro. I've used the Focusrite and love it, but I haven't tried the 230. I'd love to hear a comparison from someone whos used both. I'm leaning toward the Focusrite.
 
I have not heard the Aphex, but a friend of mine, a national VO guy, has the Focusrite at home. I've heard THAT, and it's awesome.
 
I have owned them all..I had the Aphex 230, and didn't like it because the "gate" is too "gate-like" It acts more like a switch and either is on or it;s off..no ramping up like an expander..Also the APHEX pre-amp sounded "grainy" to me..several clients told me it sounded "harsh".

The Symmetrix boxes all seem to have the expander AFTER the compressor, and that casues the "whooshes" at the end of sentanses or phrases. The Focusrite boxes all sound pretty good, but be careful of the power supplies in some of them.

For now the box of choice for me is the AirCorp model 500TV..not the grey-faced 500PH (although that is an excellent box) The TV model has an adjustable release time control that smoothes out the processor for the tastes of the TV production people that kept telling me to run with NO processor..
