Aphex 230 Voice Processor

Looking at this vocal strip. Anyone have experience with it? Would replace a Valley 401 in the studio. Thanks.

I put a bunch of these in last Fall with R-20s. Everyone loves the sound. No complaints. You can add some balls to the voice without sounding artificial if you set them carefully.

I'll echo that sentiment. Used mine with a vintage PL-10. A nice strip that doesn't take a lot of work to get a good sound.

If you're looking to get a 230 shoot me a PM - I'm downsizing and was planning to put my 230 on ebay.

I've installed about a dozen Aphex 230s over the last 5 years and have a current set up with 5 230's with RE-27 mics in one studio. For my news-talk AM they do a great job of keeping mic levels the same across the room and basically make nervous, low level guests sound bigger. I would say it's one of the most aggressive boxes Aphex has built without being over the top.

Just spend time with the gate. Compared with the Symetrix gate, the Aphex 230 gate is very picky if it's not set right. Really just takes time to find its sweet spot.
