Apollo 11 moon landing

Yes, I know this is a radio forum, but everyone who lived it has a special memory
of when Neil Armstrong took that 'one small step' for mankind.
I was 18 at the time, and had a summer job working at the Gold Cup Bakery in Forty Fort in the evenings.
I lugged a "portable" ::) black and white TV from my parent's bedroom, without permission, into work. (We had another TV downstairs, and I knew they'd understand.)
That was in a time when no one ever would take a TV to work, but no one said a word about it; we all wanted to see it when the first man landed on the moon.
If memory serves, the eagle landed around 8:40 PM, but there was not much video transmission 'til the actual event.
We heard the TV anchors blab on, and occassional audio transmissions from the astronauts.
There was a long delay 'til Neil came out, and people started wondering why.
Checking systems was the guess of the TV anchors.
Later it came out that Neil and Buzz had taken Holy Communion upon landing on the lunar surface.
It wasn't 'til after 11 PM that Neil made his historic descent, and we all watched in awe, humility, and with some pride.
The machines at the bakery whirred and hummed, but we all stood spellbound watching the television.
Here's some of what we saw:

Perhaps you all have memories and stories associated with that event.

it was nice that you remembered the moon landing.. i was driving home from a remote i did at a church at lake silkworth..funny i remember that bakery in f.f. its now a flower place owned by the tobin family. thanks for posting the moon landing ..the cowboy

I was working at a Beautiful Music station then ; oddly, one of three or four young pups in their early twenties. The owner of the station either thought we punks had terrific voices and air presences, or that we would work cheap.

One of the young guys brought in a black and white TV to the air studio and we watched the moon landing. We were all in broadcasting; still, it must have felt very much the way the coded message 'What hath God wrought?', sent 150 years previously, was received.

Lol : On that same TV set in the studio, almost three months later, even the die-hard Yankee fans on our air staff were cheering and screaming when Tommy Agee made those two outfield catches in the World Series. There must have been some Oriole-haters in the studio along with we Met fans. :D

Thank for the memories, Zenith T-O
