Apparently LESS is MORE

As reported right here at radio-info:
"New York City’s WABC-AM (770) PD Laurie Cantillo is named by Talkers Magazine as the 2010 recipient of the Judy Jarvis Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions by a Woman to Talk Radio"

What exactly did she contribute, making sure the weekend schedule was running smoothly?

Maybe she was in on deal to simulcast Imus in the morning of Fox Business

I was at the Talkers Magazine New Media Seminar last June when Bob Grant was presented a lifetime achievement award by the publication (this just weeks after the now-defunct Radio & Records yanked their plan to give him an award). Meanwhile, outside the building, a bevy of protesters - all two of them - showed their disdain to Talkers in giving Grant an award.

Incidentally, it was Ms. Cantillo that brought Grant back to WABC. How many protesters do you think will be outside this time?

More coverage from Talkers' own website, which teases that they will disclose the recipient of their annual "Freedom of Speech Award" tomorrow:

Wow.

Do you think I can get an award if I re-release the wheel?

Actually, Ms. Cantillo has a very difficult job, indeed. She has to make sure all of the wires are hooked up properly to make sure that all of the syndication comes through properly. She has to hire a plumber once in a while to pump out the syndication cesspool that is WABC. Oh, yeah, every once in a while she has to make sure that the few hours that are local, mostly on Sundays when nobody listens, are filled with people who can actually talk and take phone calls. You know, this is almost like Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize. For what was once a great radio station, in my opinion, WABC is probably the country's biggest joke when it comes to a radio format. And now I think I know why Phil Boyce left.

Ironically perhaps, it seems that born-again Boyce cesspooled himself right out of a job. When you set your station up to run on autopilot, don't be surprised if you're no longer needed for day to day operations.

And the winner is: Jack Rice. Whoever that is...

Exactly what I'm saying. The job of program director at WABC is a joke. Not needed. Save the big salary. Nothing to do anyway, and now she's getting an award for being program director of a radio station that's almost 100% syndicated.

How sad and pathetic is it that the legendary WABC in market #1 is really not much different now than some turn-key operation in Des Moines?
