If someone asked me if I like Country music, I quickly whip...NO!
However, that's not entirely true, but with No for my answer, I don't have to suffer (spare me!) through someone's worshipful praise of the latest fly-by-night star/starlet crawling around in the plastic wicker basket that is labeled "Today's Country". Weekly singles from monthy albums, and without a hit, they're over before a Kardasian marriage. Some of it ain't bad, but I drather stick with traditional stuff.
I might not have the name correct, but...J.D. Michaels had a very good,...honest, 4-hour Country show. He even granted airplay to some regional artists, and that is always a peak interest for me.
I am not aware as to why he is no longer on the air, but I hold what he did in high regard. A year or so back, I even attened one of his promotions; a live show at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.
The package was Ronnie Dove, Billy Joe Royal, Ronnie McDowell, and one of my all-time favorites, Narvel Felts. Through various other promotional means, and his 4-hour daily show, a crowd of music lovers paid, and saw an excellent show. Narvel is truely someone to see...walked out with a Telecaster...and delivered all his hits, including..."Pink & Black Days"...from his Rockabilly beginnings in Memphis...Spectacular!! It was pure, honest Radio, and a successful Radio promotion.
...Thanks J.D.!
Respectfully,
Scooter Lesley.
