Apps for Soft AC streams

I emailed this station to see if they have an app for mobile devices. Have yet to hear a reply. http://www.channelztheedge.com/
They have a player for their browser. They also have an m3u file you can download to listen with iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.

This is station is browser only so far: http://LoveRadioUSA.com

1X may not be fast enough for music streaming.

I did some Google searching and found out that both 3G and 1X are both Verizon network connections. 3G is the faster of the two. The switching back and forth is apparently some roaming going on.

Another question, when you stream on these smartphones, do you have to have your headphones plugged in or can you listen without them?

You can listen either way.

The phone has a pre-installed app for listening to FM stations. You have to have your headphones plugged in to act as an antenna but the settings for the app lets you have a choice of either listening using the headphones or listening using the phone's speaker. I use the speaker unless it's a situation where I don't want to disturb someone. At most places where I'm at during the day, FM reception isn't all that great and only two stations come in clearly, a country station and a Christian Soft AC station. Since the Christian Soft AC station matches more with what I like stylistically, I have that set as a favorite channel.

Because Soft N Easy Net Radio and Soft Rock Radio Love and Joy 99.5 are all on the Pro Net Licensing website, I've gotten the Pro Net Licensing app for my phone and set those as favorites.

When I initially started listening to streams, I would search through various radio directories and download various media files and make playlists of them in iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. so I wouldn't have to listen through my browser, which can tend to be sluggish at times. In addition to the media files, I had an old version of iTunes, which had a listing of various radio streams from around the web.

I upgraded to iTunes 11 several months ago and discovered that they've ditched the stream listing and have gone to the Pandora, etc. style, where listeners can personalize their streams by giving like/dislike feedback of songs and can skip songs they hate. It seems to me that listeners having more control over what they hear on streams is the direction that streaming is going to for the future.

Since you like a variety of stations from different sources, I recommend the Tunein app.

I got rid of the Pro Net Licensing app and now have gotten the Tunein app that you and PassTheWord recommended. Like you said, since my favorite stations are from various sources, the Tunein app comes in handy. Much better than having multiple apps for each source taking up storage space.

TuneIn is probably the best mobile app as far as the number of stations that are available. Functionality...not so much. We use a dedicated streamlicensing app for Lite 99, but we're also listed on TuneIn, too, just because most people who access internet radio on a mobile device are already familiar with it.
