April 16: This Day in TV History

Just a few random TV related events that happened on April 16. Discuss or comment as you please……

1927: Singer/actress Edie Adams (The Ernie Kovacs Show, Take a Good Look, Here’s Edie) is born (as Edie Elizabeth Enke) in Kingston, Pennsylvania.

1949: Actress Melody Patterson (F Troop) is born in Inglewood, California.

1954: KULA-TV (channel 4, later KHVH-TV, now KITV) signs on in Honolulu, Hawaii.

1962: Walter Cronkite begins his 19-year run as anchor of The CBS Evening News.

1965: Comedian/actor Martin Lawrence (Martin) is born in Frankfurt, Germany (military brat).

1978: The acclaimed 4-part miniseries Holocaust debuts on NBC.

1986: After 18 years as the face of WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News, anchor Roger Grimsby is fired by News Director Bill Applegate, a move that stuns and angers many viewers of the station. Grimsby would be quickly hired by rival WNBC-TV.

2002: Actor Robert Urich (Vega$, Spencer: For Hire) dies of cancer in Thousand Oaks, California, aged 55.

(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..) ;)

So she WAS only in her mid-teens when the show premiered! I'd heard there was some age-fudging going on at the time.

Yup....she was all of 16 at the time. Yikes!! :eek:

I think she was actually 15 when they started rolling the cameras. I look at those shows and admit
I never would have guessed she was only 15. Really freaked them out because by the time they
found out Ken Berry had kissed her in half a dozen episodes. (when you want to work in Hollywood
they ask for ID nowadays....)
