april fool's day disasters

Does morning radio no longer do April Fool's Day stunts? I remember hearing about a morning show (I think in Pennsylvania) where the morning jock was plugging that Britney Spears was going to come to the station. Hundreds of people showed up, and when the limo arrived, it was a blow-up doll with Britney's face or something. People were PISSED! Lawsuits, etc. when some kid got hurt in the crush. Anyone recall that? Who/where is that guy now?

That happened in Binghamotn, NY at WMRV (Star 105.7). The crowds were running to see "Britney" and in the chaos, a woman fell and hit her head on a sharp curb corner and ended up dying. The jock involved was a guy named JJ. He's landed in major market. Not sure what the outcome was of the trials though...

Bill Fox's Britney Spears Appearance

Bill Fox, a DJ at WBHT-FM in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, told his listeners that Britney Spears, the teen idol of pop music, was going to appear at the Radio station. Hundreds of listeners and fans showed up. But, when a limousine arrived, somebody got out holding a Britney Spears doll. The Associated Press reported that someone on the scene quoted Fox as saying, “"See, I told you she was a real doll to work with." [EDIT]

Is this the same guy in Portland?

They eventually settled out of court.

I remember Mike and Chantal years ago playing a prank in which they claimed that a Krispy Kreme opened in South Burlington at (blank) shopping center (they made up a name for the joke.) They got plenty of people with that one. I believe the Colchester PD even showed up at the studio to tell them to cut it out.

I was working for Star's sister station HOT 1079 in Syracuse, some of their jocks were working part time @ our station! As I recall they played a pre recorded Britney interview and I think they had a look a like anyways the crowd was chasing the limo. a 38 yr old mother of 2 or 3 that died a few days later only after suffering from a heart attack! CC did settle out of court....I do know that she tripped and fell off the property. as for the DJ's down there I don't recall a JJ being there.....Ryan Spears and a few part timers thats it.

Well here is a station that pulled off an April Fools stunt with success. KIXX 100.5 morning show did a report saying that traffic lights were now set up that if you beep your horn three times and the lights would switch to green. It went over so well that I saw a story about it on WNNE 31. Nice job guys, you pulled it off, kept your jobs and got good press out of it. http://www.wptz.com/video/15766611/index.html?taf=pla Here is the link to see the news story.

Checked and there is no Bill Fox working for either station...looks like you were fooled...

Dude I'm surprised I didn't hear anything out of your camp ----

Honestly, I thought about it....but,---and this is totally NOT a slam on you guys---I just feel that Morning shows doing April Fool's pranks are a dead horse.

Plus, I couldn't be bothered thinking something up. ;D

No, it's the same guy. A little legwork revealed it. Go to http://radiodemos.com/browse.php?ID=153.

Turns out Bill's looking to get outta Portland!

I would too, if I were him
