April Fools gags...

The only April Fools gags I remember hearing on air locally were Q102 flipping to "Sucky Sounds of the 70s" in 1992, then KRZ saying it was April 1st, 1975 in 1993... and I had Valley Girl #1 on my top 9 at 9 back in 2002.

Any other good gags that our local stations pulled?

Somebody, might had been KRZ or Rock 107 switched to Polka once....

Speaking on April Fools gags...Eric Peterson of Froggy 101 pulled one today....check out the engagement notice in the Times Leader...he is marrying Carrie Underwood...

Didn't WBHT (then Hot 97) say that Britney Spears was going to show up at the station and get out of a limo to see the crowd. The announcers said they spoke the day prior with Britney and she was "A real doll"... day of the event they produce a Britney Spears doll. Hundreds of people at the event and a lot of broken hearted girls who took the day off from school.. Morning team told the audience on hand that they said she was a REAL DOLL! Way to go guys, stick it to you core audience and tick off parents.

As I recall, many stations do not do AFD pranks anymore coz too many were pissing off the leadership of their communities (see also: Opie and Anthony and the Mayor of Boston).

They're lame, predictable, tired, old-fashioned, pointless, easily spotted, and the PD said do one. Imagine my surprise.

(I didn't)

Bill Fox is in Portland, Maine now. When he got hired for his current gig, he neglected to tell his employers about that day.
They know now, though.

WMUH's Chuck Morgan pulled a great one on The AM/FM jock Rich OConnor! Chuck pre-produced the last 20 mins of his "Light and Fluffy Radio Show" and then off air held a profanity laced conversation with Rich who was completly unaware that it wasn't going out live over the air waves. Chuck also recorded the prank and played it back later in the day for the station's general manager who almost died, since Chuck is known for being the "language police" at the station. Of course, none of this matters, since this is only college radio as a former Froggy joke once put it.
