April Fools Jokes in NYC Radio

I vaguely remember one year WPLJ and Z-100 swapped morning teams on April 1. In another year country music was played as Howdy 105.1. In 1974 people thought that the religious format on WWDJ was a joke, but it wasn't.

Can anyone think of other April Fools jokes in the history of NYC radio?

Bruce

The only one I remember is waking up one morning to PLJ and hearing that it was 2 feet of snow outside. Needless to say it woke me up quick :)

I think since April Fools fell on a Sunday this year, most radio stations tend to advoid any pranks for their stations without a staff on hand.

In the mid 1960s.....WABC ran a promotion urging listners to try and fool Dan Ingram.........

On April fools day Dan went on the air and it was about 30 minutes before he realized that

someone else was on the air from another studio..... I dont think he was to happy he was

had!!

Friday April 1, 2005, Micky Dolenz told listeners WCBS-FM was broadcasting in foreign languages, and they could make use of the "SAP Language control". (Callers to the station were told if they did not have an SAP button, then twist the antenna)

I forgot it was april 1 it was a sunday to me like any other. Radio I listen to never did a prank!!
