April Fools pranks in Boston radio & TV

April Fools' Day 1984, I'm about to do a show at WMWM Salem State and I told people at the campus newspaper that acc.
to the teletype we had, Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his father. Someone didn't believe me. April Fool, right? Then someone came in and said "hey kiss 108 just said Marvin Gaye died".

Of the past:
--(TV) Ch 7 had the breaking news of 635 ft Mt. Milton in the Blue Hills erupting. See, it was chain reaction set off by
Mt St Helens (wow from way over in Washington state). April Fool!

--WILD soul 1090 played country one morning, April Fool
--WMWM top 40 instead of alternative
--In mid 1990s a briefly-reunited Beatles would release 2 new singles, Free as a Bird and Real Love but a yr or so before then I heard a WFNX DJ say they wouldn't do any April Fools' stuff but they'd be right back with the new single by the Beatles

--Opie and Anthony WAAF, think this was on April Fools, had hoax saying Mayor Menino was killed in a car crash
in Fla.

They only work if you don't have an anal schincter as a general manager who approves the prank and then runs for cover blaming everyone else when the Blank hits the fan.

This morning WRKO played an ad for 1-555-KIDS4CARS,

"1 555 kids for cars
k.i.d.s. kids for cars
1 555 kids for cars
donate your kids today"

and they went on to explain how you could exchange your kid for a car and get a tax deduction.
 
Good April Fool's joke by WRKO! I HATE 877-KARS4KIDS with a PASSION!! In my neck of the woods, KIRO 710, KOMO 1000 and KNBR 680 (all 3 I can get after dark) play it to death. Even the rock/metal version!
