This morning I tuned into KISS and John Jay and Rich were apologizing for what they did on the air.Anyone hear it? Some caller said it was Stern Like and they also took a call from their boss. Then I turned over to Jamz and Kid and Ruben. They were talking to some girl crying hysterically and saying something was in the sky or something. I then had to get going but anyone know anymore? Any other stations doing fun wacky april fools stuff????

Yes indeedy. That laugh a minute Master Blogger at KT'R scooped all Valley media with news ADOT has turned state highways into toll roads and will begin collecting coins tomorrow. YIKES! It'll cost Nurse Jeff and me 51 cents to take the Piestawa Peakerman Freeway. $2.02 on the San Man-Tan Freeway and a whopping $3.03 on the 303 going north out of Buckeye. A tip of the fez to TMISU...no wonder KT'R is the Valley's Number 1 Number 2 News & Talk station!

Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk-Yuk

I heard Connie pre-sell that story at around 7:30 a.m., and she came off pretty convincingly. At that hour, my customary cynicism is susceptible to shenanigans, and I might even have bought it, were it not for Ned mentioning prominently and in front of Connie that today is Tuesday, April the 1st, April Fool's Day.

I guess they wanted mitigate the number of people calling the Governor's office, apesh!t about the new (de facto) tax.

Good choice of gag, as the idea is in the news, of late.

[EDIT] apostrophize words that don't call for it...and spell concocting with a k. Relax, chum. It's April Fool's Day.

[EDIT-namecalling]

CHUM got sold to CTV in Canada there. Did you guys know that? Bill and I did see something interesting in the monthly legal registry of Arizona. Check it on page M-47. There is a bill in the AZ house to make smoking in your car a crime! TRUE! And get this. It excludes government officials, such as mayors, law enforcement personel and elected officials. So with this the people who MAKE the laws are excluding themselves from getting a ticket for smoking in thier cars. How bogus is that? Bill stopped smoking and I don't smoke, but I know a lot of people who'll be plenty steamed up about this stuff. This and the cell phone law is gonna crank up the anger meter here you guys huh?

thank you

Howard

They almost prohibited smoking outside, at the towers. That lasted about 2 seconds.

Give our regards to Bill, Howard.

Really? You can post a message on this board, calling a radio station's personnel "morons", but if someone suggests you could be a moron because you apostrophized "morons" and misspelled "concocting", that's censorable?

Okay. Just checking. So, it's qualified name-calling. Got it.

Actually, KTAR's April Fools gag was awesome! The station garnered a lot of press with the joke.

A tip of the hat to the master blogger. ;D

I agree. I heard the blogger on with Mac and Pat this afternoon talking about the fools joke. I agree with him that some people have forgot about something called a sense of humor. They played some of the voicemails left from listeners and some were so funny because they were so upset with the station. I loved it and it was really awesome. Way to shake things up on april fools day. If some people cant get it or dont want to get it, so be it.

Ummmm - why is it that the Phx radio market always seems to be a little off? The "toll road - April Fools" bit is like 20 years old. I ran into a good number of people at work - who used to live back East - who remembered hearing the bit in their hometowns when they were in high school. I, myself used the same bit in the early 90's. I guess I can forgive a station for ripping a bit off - thats the norm in the business - but why, when the audience figured it out by like 10 am that it was fake - did the station keep shoving it off as real? A solid "April Fools" prank is like a good joke - it relies on the proper timing of the teller! After 10 is when the stations cred as a news station and their attempt to be entertaining collided - and then both aspects of their goal fell short. It was nice to hear something other than their "alarmist" take on the world though.......

azradiodude,

Apparently you haven't been reading the news lately and seen all those articles about the gubmint considering real toll roads. This gag just kind of fit in as a natural follow-up.

Ya gotta set the hook to land the fish. ;)

I get the local tie-in. My point was trying to work the used bit so long. I know how to catch a fish - I was wondering why the station was master baiting it so long.
