APRIL PPMS ARE OUT

http://www.radio-info.com/markets/atlanta

Observations:
WSB News is down.........how farther will they go when the new WYAY debuts?

Magic and Kiss are in a virtual tie.....as each has adjusted their playlist.
All the Urbans and Gospels are up!!!!

Must be the best ratings ever for WWVA, remember it took WWWQ awhile to catch on also.

Just when WYAY is trending up and seems to have gotten it's groove again, the rug is pulled out.

Dave and WNNX continue their slide.......and both appear to be primed for a format change
(as far as listenership goes).

I'm looking forward to wpb1999's always-amusing breakdown and nicknames for the respective stations.

It's amazing how stratified this market has become. Urbans (and WSB) go straight to the head of the line, then the pop F25-54 stations (Star, Q, B) lead for non-ethnic stations, then the rest fall as they may.

Great book for Wild. Those numbers are roughly as good as anything The Beat saw, but let's see if they can sustain them. River saw a nice uptick also. Country isn't quite enjoying the collective success it was two years ago, most likely because of the triple F25-54 threat of Star 94, Q100 and B98.5.

I have no words to describe 92-9 DaveFM's disastrous numbers. That has to be a record for a 100kw station in this market, correct? Wow.

Wow, Kiss and Majic are tied up and this has to be Majic's best numbers ever(6+). HOT has it's best numbers too (6+) and i'm sure it's annual Birthday Bash concert may bring in more rartings. Wonder if Radio One will do anything with the 102.9 translator that contines to simulcast Hot 107.9? WILD is also up, but wil CC add more Pop or Hip-Hop to continue to upward trend??

Different stations were climbing up and down a building. VEEEEEEE continues to climb to the very top of the building, while their once fierce competitor, The Wisbee falls and is falling fast. The Wisbee sees their brother just below, Sweet Kiss, who might actually win a sibling rivalry.... But wait, climbing with Sweet Kiss is The Majician who is in the same place. Way fare down, below the sixth floor is The Majician's sibling, Sweltering Hot who is up to a 5.9. Three stations are next, and they are fighting to the death. Praise the Lo' is climbing up, but Starry Night is falling down, why can that be? And, then guess who's next to him? Bert and his buddies! It's "Q" Ciento. But BBBBB My Soccer Mom in The Minivan is their with caller10 and the new DJ. It's Mike Shannon! OMG! A full floor below them is Da Fish, which, by the way is SAFE FOR THE WHOOOOLE FAMILY! Dropping from their classic rock high horse is The 'Hooch River. And look who is next to them, Atlanta's Mami Chula and Elvis Duran Station, which you can have a party with, Wild as a CLUB! They feature the same songs over and over and over and over and over and over again on an 80 minute cycle. And it is a country Battle over here. Soccer Kicks from the 90s to NOW and The Bull Riders are TIED! And look, stuck like glue at 2.9 is The Overdue and Late Project that has an F. Falling to a 2.5 is Classical Music and Starbucks Coffee-Shop News NPR @ WABE. And, this is a real sad one. They're about to start reading newspapers and stop booming out classic hits. YAY Hits! got a 2.4...... we'll see where they go. The Buzzing Patron scores a 1.9 and David scores a 1.3. Finally, the worst stations in ATL, 'GST and Rocky 100.5 score a 1.2.

Thats the Empire State Building of ARBS.

GOOD GRIEF!!!

WOW!!!

Enough said. You guys probably already know what I'm getting at here. Something told me to go look at the ratings and... GEEZUS! Some wild things happening here.

This faithful hope I have is pretty much the one thing that keeps me dedicated to checking the radio boards.

Once WYAY flips, could Journey amass enough of the classic (TOP 40) hits market to get some real ratings?

My money's on no. I'm not convinced most of the market is really checking for changes on the 97.9 signal, and Cumulus hasn't shown any proclivity towards marketing the station. That's definitely not going to change as their priorities shift heavily towards All News 106.7.

If you look at Wild's playlist, there's very little differentiating it from a youth-leaning CHR - I feel like that's why the numbers are climbing - notice, though, that it doesn't seem to be taking listeners from Q100 (i. e. people that like rhythmic-leaning CHR wouldn't be listening to Q100 in the first place)

WZGC has not been 100Kw (if they were 100KW back then) sense they left the Peachtree Center Westin antenna they use to share with 94.1.

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=WZGC&x=15&y=4&sr=Y&s=C

They are now at the same height as 99.7 but at 64KW, which still is a good in-town signal but they are now a C1 same class as 94.9.

http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/fm-broadcast-station-classes-and-service-contours

Except for building penetration and adjacent channel interference, antenna height (and location) are usually considered the most important in coverage.

Hey- What about 98.9 and 97.9; How are they doing in the ratings? I ask because 100.5 will probably be heading for a format flip (probably after the braves season) and if one of the translators has shown some improvement, would seem that they would be placed on the frequency. 98.9 has a horrible signal (worse than 97.9) so any share would be good in my view. 97.9 also seems to be doing well as well.

Not a huge surprise for WSB 750/95.5. They are basically a single topic for half their broadcast day, every day. Expect NO change to that trend as the rest of the year is set to be dominated by election coverage of one sort or another. The books will say whether that's what people want to hear.

The recent "50 percent more news and traffic in the afternoon!" promos are amusing. For the last while, they hadn't been able to sell all the traffic report sponsor slots especially in the later afternoon. Dunno if that's a new trend but it seems to me all they did was convert "no sponsor" into a few seconds more news and traffic, which is 50% more than the almost no time at all they gave it before. 50% more of not much is not much of a change.

Oh I know. They can go back to the sponsors and claim they are even more booked up. Yes, well, that happens when you take part of the inventory OFF the market.

I hate being this pessimistic. Blame it on the desperate hope that 106.7 will actually turn out to be a news junky's dream and not a complete flop. That fragment of hope makes it hard to settle for the same old.
