April PPM's out! KMCQ received a 2.1 rating

April PPM data 6+ is out. As I mentioned last year on this board, I believed KMCQ could get a 2.0 and lots of people laughed at that notion. They actually received a 2.1 .

Check it out: http://www.radio-info.com/markets/seattle-tacoma

Most notable is that KJR-FM got dislodged from their perch. Also, Movin' moved up ahead of KBKS and KAOS down in Olympia, amazingly. The Panel must have been very Southend-centric, I suspect.

I meant to say that KAOS finally showed up in the ratings, amazingly.

Well, well, well. Can't wait to see the CC out of town brain trust react to this news. Guess that ol' iPod on shuffle really is a good radio format!!

KBKS is in free fall, with mornings cut in half from about a month ago in the key female demos. KPLZ mornings were number one in women 25-54, but were also number one 18-34 where KBKS should be strong. On the male side of things BJ Shea continues to own 25-54 men and 18-34 men. Another strong showing for KISW.

Big winners in April: KISW, KPLZ, KRWM, KOMO and KCMQ. All had nice gains.
Big losers in April: KBKS, KJR-FM, KLCK, KIRO and KMPS

Bob Rivers finished in third, which bodes well for the show, but it seems to disconnect with the rest of KJR-FM causing the station to slide. Seems Rivers and Oldies don't mix. He might fit better if KJR goes back to more of a Classic Hits/Classic Rock sound.

Noticed Mariners did nothing for KIRO-AM. Sad state of baseball in Seattle.

Garbage in, garbage out. PPM results show more about the deficiencies in the new methodology than about shifts in listenership. And to think that programmers will make adjustments based on these numbers...

The PPM concept is valid, but the utilization of a small (very small) panel negates the concept.

I have been in numerous retail establishments over the last month and many had KMCQ playing in the store. I mentioned to one clerk who was only in his late 20s or early 30s that I liked the station and had it on in my car as well. He then said that he loved it because he didn't hear the same old stuff all the time. Oldies programmers are underestimating the tastes and wants of their listening audience. KMCQ has it right. I hear oldies on that station that I have never heard before so they are like new records to me. I bought a Flirtations CD based on hearing Nothing But A Heartache on the station. I had never heard that song before.

I thought I knew ALL the hits of the 60's and 70's, but I'm hearing songs on this station I've never heard before, along with a lot of things long forgotten by the other stations. As long as they keep this up, I'll be listening.
