April Ratings

http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb011

The start of the Tigers season propelled the Ticket back into the top slot, but WWJ remains a strong 2nd. WCSX appears to have gained at the expense of WOMC. The good news for Greater Media is offset by the fact that 105.1 slipped, again to a 1.3. WYCD saw a jump of more than half a point. Perhaps recent Country releases are getting fans to tune back in. WMXD rose nearly a full point, while WJLB lost ground. WJR dropped slightly. As both WKQI and WDVD fell, I have to wonder if some Country fans flocked to those stations with Taylor Swift's recent pop release and are now filtering back into listening to Country stations.

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it was the Tigers.

Ticket is first in AQH share, fifth in cume, suggesting longer TSLs.
J is second in share, sixth in cume (same thing).
Variations month to month come from sampling error, not changes in listening habits.

Ummm, it was a 2 point jump and a significant jump happens every April. A jump of that amount is not a sampling error. You cannot be serious or you didn't look at the linked page.

It was the Tigers.

C'mon. Who listens to baseball on the radio any more?

Just more of the same old, same old - never proven - conventional wisdom, nobody is allowed to question.
Like 'J will always go up in winter because of the weather.

You can question it, but clearly a lot of people still do listen to baseball on the radio. Considering it's not available for free online and a lot of games in April are on weekday afternoons, to include Opening Day, it makes sense that people will tune in at work. I do and so do many of my coworkers.

Further, SOMETHING leads to a significant rise in WWJ's ratings in January-March, if not the weather and school closings, what do you presume it is?

I don't know. And that's my point. In the absence of valid qualitative research, we don't know.
