Either way, it will be interesting when that 94.9 signal eventually is sold. Rare opportunity for whoever gets their hands on it.

While the 88.5 signal is much larger overall (and less terrain issues) than 94.9, I really feel they're NOT going to be moving KUOW to 88.5. This has already been a public relations nightmare for the UW. They understand the meaning of pitchforks and torches (Northwest jazz fans are generally a mild and genteel bunch. Let's keep them that way.) So they are likely to tread this very carefully.

Very true about signal strength. I've never driven around any of the northern suburbs with 104.9 on the car radio, but if you happen to get into your car in Tacoma and drive north, you could easily be near Everett by the time you decided to switch.

Clear Channel wants to target the south sound with KUBE, and that 104.9 signal does a decent job of that.

It's a stretch to say iHeart WANTS to target the South Sound, the appropriate term is how they are making the best of what they have.

It may not be a bad strategy to squeeze a little more out of 104.9 (and 102.9 too, for that matter). If they can make it work, good for them, and maybe there are some listeners who really do believe that it was a choice by iHeart to target their local community (even when the studio is on Elliot Bay).

Possible but not likely.

Are they doing any targeted marketing and advertising in the South Sound?

Hard to say for sure, as i'm an outsider, but it sounds like a greater percentage of the spots are south sound oriented. Having said that, not much on the website reflects anything about Tacoma other than the branding. Time will tell if it pays off for iHeart, but i'm guessing that many people on this board aren't holding their breath.
