April Trend

Couple surprises, but pretty much business as usual in Seattle Radio. Big winners for the month in prime demo 6a-7p were KZOK, KISW, JACK, KMTT and KRWM. Big jump 18-34 for KBKS to number one for the month tied with KUBE. Big drop-off in April for KBSG, KQMV and all AM stations except KOMO at night with big Mariners numbers. Everyone else about where they have been. Expect big surprises next year when the first PPM trend for April is announced.

Kudos to Steve Rivers who took KBKS back to number one 18-34 ;D He is a true legend and he did it again in Seattle. The last three trends have been straight up for KISS. That cowboy has a track record everyone should envy. Hope he gets back in the saddle soon. KBKS will miss him :'( Country stations took it on the chin in April and rock stations like JACK, KISW, KZOK had a big ole book. Things will even out in the end as always ;)

ya ya ya. Just a fluke trend and the first time KBKS has beaten MOVin in any single month for seven or eight months. i doubt anyone at Sandusky is worried. Mamma always knows best!!

KBKS has shown nice growth in the last three months as MOVIN declines. KBKS as the Mainstream CHR should be number one 18-34 given the format parameter. MOVIN has been hit hard with the changes made by Mr. Rivers and to a degree KUBE. KUBE and KBKS should both be on top 18-34 and April was a good start for KBKS.
While Steve Rivers should be congratulated for another turnaround I suspect it was a team effort in my humble opionion. We all wish Mr Rivers a speedy recovery and a return to KBKS. To get to the next level KBKS must extend its demographics to 25-54 like KISS in LA, Boston and Dallas. Mr Rivers knows those markets well and knows how to get it done.

I am actually going to agree with mamma, though it hurts. KBKS had a single good trend. Same thing happened six or seven months ago. Might be wise to see what happens over a couple of books (six trends) before we declare KBKS fixed and a winner. Seems we had this discussion back in September or August when KBKS got a big trend and the next five trends were terrible. For now this trend should end any talk of format flips for KBKS which is refreshing. The actual three month arbitrend, which is more accurate shows KQMV, MOVIN, KISW and KMPS well ahead of KBKS 18-34.

The three month arbitrend again shows how stable this market is. Top stations in prime demo and daytime dayparts are:
(in no particular order) KZOK, KMPS, KISW, KCMS, KRWM, KPLZ, KMTT, KWJZ and KUBE. In morning drive the usual players are on top. The month trend extrap is interesting, the three month book counts and the two and four book success is what counts in the advertising world.

I am still reeling from agreeing with mamma.

3 month rolling average P18-34

#1 KUBE
#2 KISW
#3 KBKS
#4 KQMV

You actually don't have to agree with Mamma. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Right you are. I had not factored in the big KBKS April and bad KQMV April in the three month above. KMPS has also dropped out thanks to a bad April 18-34. KUBE and KISW remain miles ahead of anyone 18-34, with KBKS and KQMV tied in GRPS 18-34 and similar in share. 25-54 KQMV remains well ahead on KBKS, not that either station cares. Two book and four book is where it all counts is my point and trends are just for fun.

My head feels better and I am no longer reeling.

This isn't exactly major news but I noticed that KXXO's share of the 12+ audience grew significantly in the last trend! They're well above the half share range. Maybe, they won't want to move.
