APTN to add news, comedy, and other new programming

I think it's great that they will be able to present an alternative perspective on the news; wish we could see it stateside.

They already carry a half hour newscast at 6:30 every night. I guess they're just expanding it. A half hour may not be enough, and expanding to an hour would be a go0d idea.

Interesting.
I didn't even know they had news of any sort on that station.

Perhaps instead of (just) spending so much money advertising the fact that they have movies, their public transit ads should try including the fact that they also have news content.

How many First Nations people live inside of urban areas (not just the mere outskirts)? Apparently, APTN's ads for movies and entertainment are aimed at non-native "city slickers".

I've watch their newscasts on occasion, and have noted a lot of the stories featured reserves and things going on that were far outside of the urban areas. It's a go0d way to know what's going on in the north as well. I work for a research firm and we do surveys with natives a couple of times a year. APTN pays for a portion of the survey and it's their way of seeing what people watch on the channel. Aparrently some of their news is gathered by people inviting APTN to cover events. I also know that in some areas, there are low powered APTN translators for people to watch the channel, in some areas, it's the only channel they get, even the CBC may not be available in some of these remote areas, so this channel is their window on the world.

I have read that APTN has two separate feeds, one for Northern Canada and one for the rest of Canada. Does the Northern feed have a different news program tailored more to news of local interest, or does that generally get left to CBC North?

How many "City Slickers" get the ads?

They really left me feeling confused.

Are they saying they are now going head on with City TV's great movies, or are they trying to inform the public that they now have some "great" movies that in some way relate to Native culture?

Better yet, maybe they're just trying to say that they're going to actually *have* movies in the fall. Citytv is eliminating all its movies, except for a "Canadian" movie on Saturday nights.
