Arabic station denied in Halifax

An application by Antoine Karam for a primarily Arabic station in Halifax has been rejected by the CRTC. The new station would have operated on 99.1 with 300 watts (355 watts maximum ERP). Over half of the programming would have been a simulcast of Arabic station CHOU 1450 Montreal.

The CRTC was concerned that the amount of local programming proposed by the applicant was insufficient to serve and reflect the local community adequately. In addition concerns were raised that a greater number of languages should be broadcast than that proposed by the applicant.
