Arbitron To Issue Spring Ratings
For New Orleans; Biloxi, MS
Aug. 14 date set, new population estimates in place
The first post-Hurricane Katrina ratings results for the New Orleans and Biloxi, MS markets will come on Aug. 14 with the release of spring 2006 audience estimates for each market by Arbitron. Neither market has been measured since spring 2005, and the new results will reflect major population changes that Arbitron plans to detail in a White Paper set for release by mid-August.

According to population estimates compiled by Claritas that have been approved for use by Arbitron, New Orleans' spring 2006 12+ population was 864,100 — a drop from 1,079,300 persons in spring 2005. That drops the market's rank from No. 46 to No. 58. Meanwhile, the market's 12+ population of African-Americans is now 251,900, a 36% drop from one year before.
In Biloxi, the population changes were not as drastic: The market's 12+ population in spring 2006 was 303,400, compared to 308,300 in spring 2005. Biloxi's rank is now No. 143, down from No. 139. Additionally, Biloxi's 12+ African-American population is off just 3%, to 59,500.
