From FMQB....

Arbitron has released its new market rankings and survey schedule for the Fall 2006. There are two major changes in the top 10 markets, as Philadelphia falls to #7, with Houston-Galveston surpassing it to become the #6 market. Atlanta moves past Detroit to become the #9 market in the country, with Boston dropping out of the top 10.

We've seen this coming, what with the population shift South and West, leaving the Northeast in droves.

Anyone else think LA could someday replace NYC as the #1 market?

Yeah, Boston has been #11 for a while. I think this was announced sometime last year. It's weird that FMQB is reporting this as something new.

Ny will probably be #1 fo awhile more. I remeber last year or so they dropped westchester county NY from arbitron and hust added it on to the nyc market. does anyone remember this?

I agree ... the last census showed a metro population of 18,709,802 for New York, and only 12,923,547 for LA. Of course, the cume will be different than raw census figures. Interestingly, NYC's city population is almost double that of LA: 8,104,079 vs. 4,097,340.

I agree. I thought Boston dropped to 11 more than 2 years ago.

I think it was announced in the summer of '05 and showed up in the fall book.

I thought it was old news, but saw it and posted it anyway....

Arbitron and Nielson are different things.

Boston may had drop out of the top 20 radio market , if they didnt added on parts of Worcester county and southern N.H. into Boston radio Market , few years ago.

Yes - Boston did drop out of the top ten some time ago. This almost immediately became evident from the ad revenue in the market. That and a soft year made GM's and sales managers squirm.
