The Big News is KOVE 106.5 jumping a full point to tie #5 KRBE. Univision has three stations in the top ten; KLTN at #4, KOVE-FM at #5 and KPTY in a four way tie for 10th place. Univision Radio has become a force in the Hispanic Market in a big way. It is great to see a company that is responsive to it's listeners to do well. Gradulations to Univision.
#1 KODA - down slightly, but in 1st place by 0.8, the tweaking of the format to a much more modern AC sound is paying off.
#2 & 3 KMJQ & KBXX Both station took a drop of 0.6 & 0.7, just placement of books? Or is Houston using the PPM exclusively? Although the ratings concur with Winter 2005 ratings for both stations.
#4 KLTN a solid #4, just 0.1 behind KBXX and 1.5 ahead of #5 KOVE-FM and KRBE. KLTN will likely be the standard to beat for a long time to come.
#5 KRBE & KOVE-FM - KRBE up 0.2 but not good enough to keep the #5 space alone.
#7 KKRW & KTBZ both up to mid three's. Is Clear Channel doing that great programming the stations or is it from a lack of choice?
#9 KILT-FM still does and will own the Country Market. Unless someone other than Cox goes Country and likely KILT will still be the #1 Country station.
#10 KHMX/KLOL/KPRC-AM/KPTY all just over three. Mix up slightly, Mega holding steady, KPRC 950 beats the 50kW giant for the first time in a looong time. KPTY up slightly.
#14 KHJZ/KTRH I was dead wrong about The Wave and Smooth Jazz, KHJZ at their best ratings and KTRH down slighty from last month, but nearly a point since Summer Book 2005. Is KFNC having an impact on KTRH and their News Block?
Three of Cox's four stations up slightly and Legends even. Shows you don't have to do anything and have terrible programming and pull ratings in Houston. It is a sad commentary on Houston radio. The Point up 0.3 and it sounds worse than ever.
#21 KILT-AM Sports 610 holding steady, as did KBME, only 790 is in nearly dead last in the ratings. Time for Clear Channel to bury 790 and go back to Adult Standards, which is having a resurgance in popularity.
#23 KROI - give it up
#24t KCOH up slightly and over a one for a very good and under rated AM station for the Black Community with News Talk daytime and great Blues, Soul, R&B nights for anyone.
#24t KIOL nights are killing them is my quess and their last contest which was probably the most tasteless in Houston radio history really hurt. Maybe the new contest for the car will help, but I won't hold my breath. Time for KIOL to go to hard rock which is what most of the request are for, not what they are playing now. Let Wendy Miller program the station.
#30t KFNC up 0.1 still near the bottom of the heap. Drop the talk during the day and go all News and report the news without the BS joking around and maybe the station will be taken seriously. KFNC has great talent there, just a poor News format.
All else is the same old same old.
