Arbitron Ratings

Looks like the lights are finally going out at WJAS. Wonder if they wouldn't do well to pick up a lot of the '60s oldies that 3WS has dropped and actively chase those listeners who have noticed the 3WS shift to '70s and early '80s.

Makes perfect sense. The folks who were teenagers in the 40's and early 50's are dying off, but the folks who were teenagers in the late 50's and 60's are getting even older, so they might as well shift their music dates to accompdate the aging population.

I agree. Why wait for WRRK to die slowly. Better to put a bullet into it PDQ and get it over with. Jack would do just that.

ROTFLMAO!!!!! Anyone who looks at a 12+ to gauge how a station whose demo is 25-54 (or 35-54 for that matter) is performing is quite the foolish one. Unless you actually subscribe to Arbitron, those numbers are as valuable as Bobby Bonilla memorabilia. And, judging by the number of ads they're running, I don't think they're having a hard time selling the station to clients. They've got the money, the listeners have the rock they grew up on, so why change? Just because some teenagers and 20somethings prefer something else? C'mon people! And, remember the same programmers who are now running Jack have run some other format into the crapper, so why would Jack be any different? And how long before some wise-assed sales people start selling 6 minute stop sets on Jack and ruining it like they've done other formats?

WRRK is distancing themselves from 'DVE as far as classic rock (compare how many songs are in 'RRKs library to 'DVE's "classic" library). The only 2 things 'DVE has going is that they're playing more '90s, and the Steelers.
'RRK ism more dedicated to classic rock than 'DVE....'DVE does a better job of baffling you with bull&%$t than dazzling you with brilliance. By the way, is 'DVE still running that comedy spot with Eddie Crow & Gene Collier?

Hey I'm over 50 and I listen to some Jack stations on the web when doing work in the office, and I don't listen to DVE. My favorite station for Classic tunes is 1063 the River in Steubenville, then Y103 out of Youngstown(er Sharon-Youngstown) Both stations sound more alive ,fresh and the jocks are having fun!

In my opion RRK just sounds worn out and tired, they sounded much better with Bonnie and Judge. Remember the ultimate A-Z, Roll the Dice etc etc?..don't hear that stuff anymore.Just my opinion folks...it's a free country!

WDSY's rise (in the two trends, and predicted for the whole book) is going to be short-term, as most country rises are. It's aided by a good presentation, some pretty decent music, and a general affinity for country right now.

These country tides ebb and flow. We last saw one in the early-mid 90s. It's about that cyclical time now.

It will be over in 18 months.

You're the one saying it's foolish to judge a station's performance on 12+ numbers...yet you're judging performance on the number of spots you hear.

How much are advertisers paying for those spots? Are they getting a buy one, get five more free deal? How many are being sold in combination with Frischling's other properties, like City Paper?

I really like 106.3 the River. I am 20, but really enjoy the music and presentation of the station. My only gripe with it is... can't some jocks learn not to sound like they are reading a liner card?
