Ken....Translators are designed to fill in holes for stations whose signals need the help; not to purposely cause interference. WLTB and their attorneys are feeding you falsities. Bing has had translators for years. Wpel has 2, WMHR has 1, FLN has 1, KGB has 1, Even WLTB has 1 (that for years was their saving grace when it was located at Ingraham Hill). In the Western US; many communities would have no service at all without translators. In most of Bing.'s neighboring markets, translators are important to stations signals; Syracuse, Ithaca, Scranton, Elmira, Rochester, Middletown, etc. Stations like WCDW and WRRQ and WLTB, and WKGB and WCII need translators to fill in coverage holes they have because their main facilities have been maxed out to their best possible locations. Translators require that listeners be educated and marketed too. You sited a consultant....What's his name.....he's WRONG....I'd like his resume and I'd like to talk to him. In Elmira-Corning the number 1, 2, 3, and 5 stations (12+ all have important translators). The two high power in market facilites (WNKI and WMTT) both have translators (to cover Elmira itself). It generally takes a full three years for listeners to be completely aware of alternate frequecies. Your 1 or 2 book case is irrelavant, not enough time or enough marketing. By the way.....if translators are technically located near the primary station's main signal (WRRQ - 107.1 tx to 106.7 main; WMTT - 95.1 tx to 94.7 main; WEZX - 107.3 tx to 106.9 main; WKGB - 92.1 tx to 92.5 main; etc. the translators awareness usually grows more rapidly.
