Any word on the ratings?

Quality Rock is back to where they belong. Kix took a huge dump. Big 98.3 still struggling bigtime! Kiss is up. I-95 is the top rocker. E93 back to being the big urban winner. Bob had a nice debut with the new branding. WBMQ was almost a no-show.

Oh! We're discussing SAVANNAH! Let's make sure that lil tidbit makes it to the subject line next time, mmmkay? ;)

Well, since we are discussing Savannah, my remarks dont apply after all.

Oh yeah.....people loooooove sports talk radio! Show us how it's done, 102.1!

Oh, I guess it's not so hot after all. What a waste of Savannah's most powerful FM signal!

Cumulus would have been much better off putting WBMQ on the 102.1 frequency than trying to get ratings from a sports format. If they didn't want to but WBMQ on both, let the sports be on the 630 frequency.

Savannah is NOT a sports town. There are no pro teams here. The interest level is too low to support FM sports.

John Dickey, are you listening?

Putting the current WBMQ format on the 102.1 stick would be an even bigger waste of the resource, I believe. Now, if they were to do something with the programming, an FM talker would take off in Savannah. 2¢ - and here's your change.

Correct! Savannah has never been a sports town (sorry Bulldog "fans"). What would have made more sense would have been to move the programming on 103.9 to 102.1, THEN use 103.9 for sports, talk, polka, whatever.

I also agree, FM talk would work wonders here. Rush Radio 94.1 anyone?

G

I've said this before in a previous string and I stand by my idea:

Savannah has an active rock station with relatively low power. Savannah could use a modern rock format that focuses on Alternative rock. This would actually reach places like Statesboro and Hinesville; Two semi-urban areas with no modern rock following.

Grew up listening to I95. I'm shocked they are still doing good considering there playlist has not changed in nearly 10 years (minus the few additional modern songs). Love classic rock but 95 sticks with only a few songs from each artist and rides it.

So, what you're saying is that sports (in a market without a pro sports team) has more mass appeal than a news/talk? Even cities WITH pro sports teams can't compete with a well-programmed news/talk (i.e. Atlanta, Jacksonville, Orlando....need I go on?).

WBMQ has most of the right shows that will generate ratings during daytime hours (Hannity, Howard), but the morning show that they whore-out needs to be replaced with an actual news block.

But, getting back to your initial point, WBMQ's current format would have clearly been a better choice than sports. To get decent ratings, clean it up and dump the morning infomercial.

Actually, I agree that FM Sports was a bad call. Not a big fan of Hannity myself, but he draws an audience. I have to give him his due. If, as someone else suggested, CC converts 94.1 to a talker with Beck, Limbaugh, etc., Cumulus will either have to follow suit or dump the talk format in favor of something else. I've talked to someone on Alfred Street recently about perhaps putting a translator in Rincon. Although my suggestion did not set off church bells and cannonry, my impression is that they are looking at doing something interesting in the near future. What it might be is anyone's guess, but I certainly did not get the great international brush-off.
