Are 104 DJs starting to leave the ship?

Well, I don't get his bulletins since he isn't my "friend" but according to a post he made on KRBE myspace, Jan 26 is his last day.

This is pretty sad...

PD Tracy Austin - OUT
Scott Sparks - OUT
Atom Smasher - OUT
Maria Todd - OUT
Reno - OUT
Roy Ford - OUT
and now Yo-J - OUT

About the time Leslie took over as PD, it seems to have all went downhill from there.

Yo J was on Roula and Ryan this morning and explained that he wanted to get back into the medical field and felt after 13 years he wanted a change. All this talk of KRBE going down the tubes, but somehow they had killer ratings.

It looks like the Cumuslu folks are smarter than many give them credit for. KRBE has obviosuly been refocused so it will do better in the Portable People Meter, which will soon be currency in Houston just as it is in Philadelphia. The changes hada side benefit of improving the station in sales demos in the diary survey as well.

Just because the company is principally in small markets does not make them dumb.

OK, got my curiosity up.

David, how are you suggesting that a station refocus for the PPM? Repeat the frequency or call letters every five seconds? ;-) Or do you speak of a general tighten-up, reduce-tuneout refocus?

And over on 103.7 last week, W&J was making jokes about "the gay guy and fat girl that will be down the hall soon" in reference to the eventual move to KRBE's location...(tacky but it was funny..I wondered how many people caught it!)

Incessant mentions of frequency and identity do little good in PPM, as it electronically detects what is bing listened to. The PPM also detects hearing as well as listening, so there is a total paradigm shift from the diary (recall) to the PPM (actual listening).

How to refocus depends on each PDsz take on the real (as oipposed to recalled) usage of their station. Few programmers have any real experience with PPM, so some of the knowledge is very jealously guarded.

But definitely, several Houston stations, like KRBE and KOVE, are focused on the transition to the PPM and, consequentially, do better in PPM than in the diary method.
