Are all of KJR's dj's voice- tracked?

Since KBSG is no longer around here, I have been tuning into KJR FM more. It sure sounds to me that the dj's are all voice-tracked. They never seem to give the time or if they do it is like I heard Heidi May say, "it is a few minutes before the top of the hour". Actually, it was 10 min. The afternoon guy never talks with the lady who does traffic. I heard the afternoon guy doing traffic on KJR AM.

If they're not voicetracked - they should be. Jay Kelly has them on such a tight formatic leash that shows could be recorded months in advance and not sound dated. It's pathetically sad.

I'm sure they're all voicetracked.

I remember a few years back JJ Hemingway was doing the afternoon shift. At the time, the Metro reports were so short, the reporters didn't even give their name, just recieve the toss from the DJ. Now, its done in house, so the traffic reporter does say their own name.

At the time, the regular traffic girl was Lisa Wood. She took the day off. Filling in (I recognized the voice) was Leslie Larkin.

All afternoon long, JJ would toss "now let's get a traffic check with Lisa."

But it wasn't Lisa....

It really is unbearble to listen to. The music selection is terrible. The whole feel of the station stinks. I assume Jay Kelly is the program director? He needs to get the boot.

I don't see why not. A format like KJR-FMs is VERY easy to voicetrack.......

But, Bonneville'd stepped up and had live people in studio seven days a week except during syndicated programming and 12a-5a. I think it made a difference. Shame that Cheap Channel would likely not spend that kind of $. I'm surprised they're not importing jocks to Seattle like they do elsewhere.

Yes, most of the programming at KJR is voice tracked.
Jay even has those who do some "live" shows record their intors and outros as they are in the studio doing their show.
Very rare is it for there to be a live backsell or forward promote.

We all seem to hate voice-tracking, but the business doesn't see alot of evidence that it doesn't work. Station shares do pretty well..KJR was competitive with KBSG with no staff overhead. Of course, the little secret is that over time the shares may remain stable but the RATINGS will decline as fewer and fewer people tune in. In the meantime, CCU has made a bucket of cash flow from the station and written the value down to the point where it just won't matter. I sure do miss a good walk-up though...

Voicetracking has it's place, but it shouldn't be a total resting place. That's just suicide.

Clear Channel can only get so much more blood now out of their turnips. I think the bottom will fall out of radio and eventually Clear Channel will sell off it's all radio holdings and venture into something bigger and more profitable with fewer liabilities. Only makes perfect corporate sense.

All right, I couldn't believe someone actually had to ask. Hell yes KJR-FM is tracked! Only Kevin's morning news/traffic and Heidi's midday are live and she voice tracks portions of her show from time to time when she has other duties around the station. Nick Reynolds does midday traffic and tracks his afternoon show. You'll love this part, Cathy Faulkner voice tracks her show from her home on Orcas Island!

Some of you hate it but it's Clear Channel and it's all about the money. As for Jay Kelly, he's a damn sharp guy and he's given C/C more success on 95.7 than anyone else has had on that frequency in years. Don't think every thing you hear is Jay's doing. Every PD has to answer to a higher authority and Jay is probably having to accomodate management directives with which he may not entirely agree.

Well, excusssssseeee me for asking that question. I didn't realize I had stepped in moosecrap.

Oh all right. It's just that so much stuff is pre-recorded these days from Leno, network news and Dancing With The Stars to your favorite local station. I figured everyone had picked up on the voice tracking clues by now. I'm gonna go punish myself now..........

Re: Jay Kelly VT'd on 95.7

Happened to dial up 95.7 this Sunday afternoon and was quite surprised to hear PD Jay Kelly's voicetracked show ! Guess their budget's too tight to spend a couple of bucks on an outside voicetracker...

I understand corporations have to control expenses, even when Pat O'Day or Hardwick or Larry Nelson were the kings of local radio the idea was for income to exceed expenses. But jeeeez seems to me like C/C went absolutely beserk taking cost cutting to a new high (or low depnding on how you view it). In the name of cost cutting Jay Kelly must have been required to pick up some airshifts. Come to think of it Since Jay's been heard Mike Forrester has disappeared completely and he was their all-around fill in guy for 2 or 3 years.

Be interesting to see what happens to all the C/C stations (not just Seattle) now that Lee & Bain have taken over.

Most of us knew that.

And yes, Jay Kelly - being from the real contender era of KBSG knew exactly what he doing (even if it meant playing "Sweet Pea" Tommy Roe until every orifice in our skulls bled.) This hasn't happened on KJR-FM yet (God willing.)
