Cathy Hughes, owner of Radio One, has been fighting a Performance Tax that would be levied against Radio Stations in which they will have to pay artists a fee for playing their music. I remember hearing her on Mad Hatta's Morning Show on KBXX and she said if this were to pass, then they would probably have to either make significant cuts in their Gospel Formats and even more air staff. You'd also hear less variety on the secular music stations (I don't know if that's possible with KMJQ & KBXX). This may be the reason why. Elroy Smith has a pretty good track record. I'll be anxious to see what changes are made.
