The Sony HD tabletop radio at Best Buy was reduced from $199 to $119. They must be selling like hotcakes.

Wow! I have one in my office and I'll probably buy another one for the house if that's the case. I have one and its analog reception is nothing short of amazing. Of course the HD works well too.

I bought my 3rd one today. :)

Had one in my old car, that I decided to leave in there because I didn't want to modify this car. (I'll get the add-on kit soon), and I gave one to a friend about a year ago, they're just an average radio listener, but LOVE it!

Stopped at RadioShack this morning, $108 including tax. Cheap, and it's sound is actually comparable to a BOSE system. No lie, go check out the display!

I still don't know of anyone personally that owns one. I'd love to see how HD sales compare to satellite radio.

Sound is FAR superior. It's something that would resemble next to CD, not the thin & gated audio coming from satellite radio. And to answer the other question, yes. There's far more options... it's amazing. Of course you won't get your niche formats like disco or metal, but it's a really nice alternative. I find myself mostly listening to the HD1's (main channel) because of no picketing or doubling caused by buildings and overpasses.

It reminds me of AM stereo.

Then here comes a mandate for a transition to digital (like in television) then it starts flying off the shelves. :)

If that happens I half to go to XM.

Ok have :D Its early yet I havn't had my daily exercise yet to wake up. But is that the plan in the future? I don't see that really happening. I can get Houston analog great with just a dipole antenna. I cant get the HD Signal. So if that happens I wont be able to DX any more.

Where will your other 'half' go? Or 'have' you made a decision?

Sad thing is that no matter how good the audio, the programming is still lame and corporate. KUHF and KPFT are running some interesting programming on their channels, and kudos to KODA for picking up the jazz.

But 101 is running KTRH on their HD-2 channel and the other stations are just jukeboxing niches of their already lame formats.

How about running Phil Hendrie or some of the other programs that we never get to hear?

I think HD Radio is like Windows Vista, a Bust.

The reception sux
No station I really want is on it
Radios are over priced.

The reception is perfectly fine. Anywhere I am in Houston, HD works.

jras20 DXes Houston and Austin from a farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere. He always fails to mention that when he's telling everyone HD doesn't work for him.

He may end up loving HD though. Everything I've read about the proposed 10dB hotter HD levels seems pretty encouraging. The tests with KROQ LA showed better than analog coverage and better building penetration.

I heard about this too, Hopefully it is as good as they claim it is. It is supposed to go out as far as the analog and in some cases, it is better than the analog signal. I still have my doubts about this though. (IE The digital hash mayhem around the dial)

What I can tell you is it was tested on a Los Angeles station that had huge ratings before, during and after the test. The anti-HD zealots knew the testing was going on at a few different stations around the country and they obviously couldn't identify any of the stations. If they could have, you would have heard them screaming bloody murder about all sorts of imagined interference.

That didn't happen, did it? Nope.

Yes I am DX'n to Houston and others, but I can still recieve Houston as clear as you would be in Houston. That is why I dont understand why my HD Radio does not work as well as I thought it should. Until it can work without so many drop outs I'm still going to be on analog.

Then you can't say HD is bad. It is made to cover HOUSTON, not Lavaca County. It's exactly what it should be.
