Are KFI podcasts going to subscription?

I noticed last week that my KFI podcasts (Handel, John and Ken, Tim Conway) that I download via iTunes have change in title. The podcast titles have changed from KFI - Bill Handel to "Bill Handel on Demand" and the same for the other shows.

I get the sense that it's a leading indicator that the podcasts will go to a subscription format.

Personally, I like the shows in their free and convenient format (maybe listening between 1 and 8 hours each per week) but only to the extent that it's free and easily accessible.

What talk radio would you pay for?

The Coast to Coast AM podcast. $6.99 a month. Never miss a show that way. Access to years and years of past shows too. Great service, worth every dime.

seriously you must be joking... George Noron is a horrible host.

you can get everything for free if you search for it. i would pay for art bell's old broadcasts but not Noron's.

there are endless stations that stream this stuff for free, it's easy to get some software and digitally record it yourself.

Better hope you can find a stream that doesn't spontaneously stop working at least once over the course of 4 hours or so. I have yet to find one like that. And what do you mean by "free"? Clear Channel streams its content for free, but the hidden cost is that they insert special online-only ads in place of the over-the-air commercials and sometimes they aren't timed perfectly to end exactly when the "real" ads end. Result? Occasionally a few seconds of actual content will be clipped by an Ad Council public service announcement or whatever. Very frustrating to those of us who don't want to miss a second of our favorite shows. (No, in my case I'm not talking about that Coast to Coast crap.) But I wouldn't chalk it up to CC incompetence, because I don't see how it's financially possible to provide such a service without special online advertising. And you're not going to get the attention of someone listening to a stream with a banner because they're probably doing something else at the same time; you have to insert it in the audio itself. I suspect that the embedded advertising is what causes these streams to choke on occasion (the player must be trying to request content on the fly and getting a timed out response is what I think).

The good thing about the Coast to Coast podcast is there are no commercials, no bumper music. no station ID's, no hopping your recorder doesn't stop working. Just the audio portion of the show delievered right to your computer everyday. The show may not be that great to some people but they sure do have a lot of station's airing the show. But one thing is for sure it's a great model for making some extra cash for Premiere Radio Networks which they must be doing. Why don't some of these other radio companies do the same with all the other popular talk show host's? More revenue, more convience for the listener's. Maybe the bean counters should look into what the investment would return to the bottom line.

"Free" no cost.

here's one

i've found several streams that hold up over four hours no worries but it's not even that, i'd pay for old art bell shows but the current content since he left is severely lacking in content, you'd have to pay me to listen to it. i tried to listen to the show last night and after 45 min, i couldn't stand it and went to watch southpark episodes.

There are some things in life where personal taste becomes very dominant. Food: do NOT serve me something with raw onions. Music: I won't name the genres I want abolished from my presence. Cars: Mine WILL HAVE four doors, thank you. The coupes are cute, but when you are large-framed and carry some age, easy access to any seat in the vehicle trumps "cute looking car" any day of the week.

But PODCASTING. I can't think of too many things in life where the average person would be more fickle than in deciding what Podcast is worth the time to harvest, grade, sort, store and consume. I understand it is a popular show but not for my tastes.... I'm talking about Coast to Coast. If we ever have a revolution and I'm on one side and you the other, forget about "water-boarding" me. Just bring on the Coast to Coast recordings and challenge me to start revealing state secrets. ;D

Does that mean I think Coast to Coast should go away? NO! I just want to make sure that whoever, whatever is involved in the making and distribution of Podcasting as we go forward remembers that "One Size Does Not Fit All!"

Now. What did I do with my Joe Pyne recordings? Oh, there they are... just behind the Bill Moyers interviews.

Thanks, that clears it up...NOT.

Did you even read my post? If you had, you would have gotten that I was trying to ask: free with special online-only advertising or free with the original advertising left in? There's an important distinction which I explained thoroughly for you but you just couldn't be bothered to care.
