Are P&K DJ's now?

I've been trapped at my desk this week, so I decided to check out P&K on 93.3 The Bone. Is is just me, or are P&K talking less and playing a lot more music. I really noticed it yesterday when it seemed they would talk for maybe five minutes and play a song, come back, talk five minutes, play a song, commercial break, song, talk five minutues, song, etc.

Are they just DJ's now?

5 minutes of them talking is 5 minutes too long. ::)

If they would just shut up & play the next song, more & more people might be tempted to listen to the station. ;)

amen to that!!! If there was ever an argument for out of town VT and syndication is P&K.

Well, they never really were talk show hosts... :-* :-* :-*

Their show sounds so disoriented.

It's sounds so minor league when Pugs says, "933 The Bone" and Kelly responds, "The Rock of Texas." Pugs should be doing the whole tag line. Plus, Kelly sounds like she doesn't care.

It's also odd to say, "We're going to take a break" and the board op goes into a song.

Talk
Spots
Promo
Music

Repeat as necessary.

That's pretty condescending, but I see your point. P&K are not really very good radio people. What they need is a strong program director or talent coach who will instruct them on a vision for the station, the dynamics of entertaining an audience and the realities of audience flow. Otherwise, they will never be more than they are...a couple of inexperienced younger people with a perceived "gift of gab' with a snarky attitude pretending to be some sort of "radio duo". They've never really had a strong POV, and until they can craft and market that construct to an audience that can believe in them, they'll likely be dumped.

If they're arrogant enough to treat a song as a "break" from their talk, they truly don't understand the audience that the Bone is trying to attract, or the audience that is already there!

Besides, ANY on air person who refers to something coming up as a "break" is not talking like a real person and is using industry terminology for lack of having a better more compelling transition or tease. When someone uses "coming up after the break", they are actually saying "it's OK to leave now, you won't like what's next any more than we do". I'm sure your sales department would love that!

I know this is the same old argument on this board, but it seems the talk segments of the show are the only variety afforded the listener in the format the Bone is attempting here. They just played "Smells Like Teen Spirit" again, and it's the safe bet you'll be hearing the Toadies' "So Help Me Jesus" before the sun goes down.
