In recent months there have been many shakeups in local time ups. Top talk stations in Pittsburg and Seattle have completely shaken up their line-ups, usually giving incumbent talk show hosts little on no advance notice. That's why I found this item to be interesting. Here the local hosts -- Kathy O'Malley and Judy Markey -- appear to have some leverage. It seems that they have pulled their show off the air in a contact dispute. Are the lunatics attempting to run the asylum?
WGN Talk Duo Sit Out Contract Snag

By Mike Boyle
Tribune-owned news/talk WGN Chicago midday duo Kathy O’Malley and Judy Markey’s three-year contract ended on Feb. 28 and the pair have elected to stay off the air unless they reach a renewal, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“This is nothing more than a discussion of value for services,” the duo’s agent Todd Musburger told the newspaper. “Kathy and Judy clearly are the most successful radio duo in the country who’ve developed a show their audience and advertisers love. While we continue to talk with WGN, this allows us to consider the other serious opportunities that have come forward.”
WGN VP/GM Tom Langmyer added, “We’re continuing to negotiate with Kathy and Judy’s agent in hops of reaching an agreement with them on a new contract.”
The former Chicago newspaper columnists have been holding down middays on WGN since 1989.
