Here are the slogans/positioners used by Rush and Hannity's stations in the top 10 markets.
No mention of the "C" word.
Half mention news, but these stations have no news blocks or expanded news broadcasts.
Maybe they want people to think that Rush and Hannity's programs are news broadcasts.
Apparently they've succeeded because many people seem to believe just that.
Are these broadcasters (ABC and Clear Channel) afraid or ashamed to say "conservative talk radio?"

Al Franken is the subject of the "Ten Questions With" feature in this week's issue of Time magazine. Here is a sentence from the lead paragraph:

TIME's Jeffrey Ressner talked to the loquacious liberal just hours before Franken dashed off to a Democratic National Committee event.


Not only did Time use the word "liberal," the magazine also noted that Franken wasn't hiding his partisanship by going to the Democratic Committee event.

No, they are simply using the trademark brand name that they have chosen. The term "liberal talk radio" or "conservative talk radio" are not brand names, they are generic descriptions. Very few radio stations use generic descriptions to identify themselves.

You don't hear music stations saying "The place to hear old songs". They say things like "Solid Rock 'n Gold™" or "The Music of Your Life™" or "Jack™ FM".

Granted, some of those brand names you listed are pretty lame. But the intent to create an identifiable brand name is clearly there.

The problem is that some people just don't understand the concept of brand name identification. I don't think they use brand names in Bedrock.

"Rush" and "Hannity" are the stars and brand names, not "conservative". Though WHIO in Dayton promos "the best conservatice talk line-up" the morning news headlines aren't "conservative". Suppose a WBAP repositions as "Conservative talk" and a liberal host comes along with great ratings and they need to add him/her? There's a difference between "we carry these hosts who have proven to garner high ratings and happen to be conservative", and "all consrvative all the time no matter what the ratings are".

John and Ken and John Ziegler, repectively, the late PM and night-time talk hosts on KFI in Los Angeles , -- the number one talk station in country -- routinely refer to state and and local Democratic party leaders as "Socialists." I guess this would be the same as referring to Republicans as Fascists.

People are posting multiple threads on single topics and there's this guy talking about pet rocks, political theory, aromatherapy candles, and large breasted women in bikinis, and I get busted for using a non-profane word to tell the guy to please keep quiet.
