WOKK has been " THE " country station in the Meridian market for a long time , and has done an excellent job with it . Of course , this does not set well with the Clear Channel group . Since Clear Channel does not know JACK about programming a radio station , they always copy the other guy !!!!! That is why the two stations sound so much alike .
Scanman...sounds to me like you were dumped by Clear Channel; or even worse: you've never worked for them...which makes your assessment unfair. My experience with Clear Channel has been great. They have more resources at their disposal than any other radio organization. Problems arise because CC discovers what is successful in one market, then introduces it to other markets. That's why stations sound the same all over the country. However, as we all know, all markets are not the same. That statement certainly applies to Meridian.
Another issue CC has is that there are W-A-Y too many cooks in the kitchen...brand managers, consultants, etc, etc.
My point is that, in reality, Miss 101 should have the creative advantage over OKK; considering the large amount of help that is available to come up with inventive promotions (or at least 'steal' them from other CC stations).
But, like the previous poster, this potential individuality is not showing up. Now is the time for Miss 101 to come up with their own strong identity.
Personally, I felt bad when I heard that Miss 101's hunting contest had to change its name. That's a shame. But did they really think they could get away with it? Seems like someone did not put too much thought into that one. However, they did spin it nicely. They made OKK seem like pricks for threatening to sue.
When all is said and done, these stations DO sound a great deal alike. What's more, they are both sounding okay. But from the listeners' standpoint, there will be a great deal of confusion when it's time for them to fill out the diaries. With that said, Miss 101 must do something to stand out or OKK will stay on top, even if it's only by default.
