Are You Familiar With This Song

Just gone done doing a Classic Rock survey for RateTheMusic. Seems to me that the theme of the entire survey was cover tunes. Maybe someone is planning a cover tune weekend. :)

Anyway, if they're asking me "are you familiar with this song," for a cover tune, are they asking me if I know "this song," (which is identified as Title: Let's Spend the Night Together, Artist: David Bowie) or if I know this particular recording of it?

Yeah, you can find this all over the net if you want. From Aladdin Sane I think. Yes, it's a Stones cover.
I kind of like it because it's so different from the Stones version.

I wasn't asking people if they were familiar with the song.

I was asking people what the question "are you familiar with this song" means when presented with a cover song that I've never heard, but I know the song it is covering.
