Whenever has a used-car salesman NOT been successful with annoying commercials? Ever since the beginning of time, when Ug the Caveman donned a polyester leopard skin and made his first sale to his Cro-Magnon brethren, they've ALWAYS been annoying.
I was fortunate not to catch Rick Case's ads when he was in his annoying pinnacle (so much so that WMMS made several parody ads that savaged his act). However, I remember in the mid-90s when Bob Cerpantini went on a bender of sorts for
SEVERAL MONTHS advocating Pete Rose's reinstatement into baseball and induction into the HOF... ??? (Uhhh.... okay.)
Recall that Mike D'Amato has envisioned himself being the next Billy Mays. Unfortunately, Mike doesn't nearly have the charisma or silliness that Billy did.
Meanwhile, two humble requests for WKNR:
1) Can you please stop using the "are you kidding me" drop whenever it airs non-sequiter-esque during a commercial break? It's bad enough that Munch does (bad) imitations of Mike's act.
2) Just as annoying is the fact that WKNR thinks that Conrad's Tire Service Center apparently counts as a COL. What other way to explain their "This is 'ESPN 850' WKNR: Cleveland/Conrad's" top-of-the-hour legal ID? (And yes, they use the old Conrad's shout jingle...)
Ahhh... minor-league radio at its' finest.
