Are you leaving?

I know its not radio related but its radio people related? If Gustav heads our way are you leaving? This thing is coming after I paid all my bills :( So I am stuck. Nowhwere to run nowhere to hide. But at least I am inland over south Livingston Parish. Although I am in a mobile home in the woods. Weerdo I know you are on the coast. Hopefully inland this time. Hope everyone is safe. And hopefully tomorrow night we will be watching this thing turn towards the open Atlantic ;)

I hope it turns away from Louisiana. Y'all have suffered enough down there. Just when New Orleans was starting to really recover this threatens. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

I swear I get e-mail updates from WWL about this storm at least once every hour or so. Right after Katrina hit I had them on all night every night. Much different coverage from what was on tv.

Watch, I mean really watch...Gustav and our city. You are SO wrong on both accounts. The sad thing is we still remember Katrina here, but it was the floods from the rains that caused the levees to break that caused all the damage. You want Katrina damage, drive the coast through the "upswing" side of Katrina...Biloxi, Gulfport, Pasagoula...New Orleans was only the story it was because it's mayor was a moron, it's people shot at rescue workers, looted, and it was a "city" rather than a "town." If you're a news outlet, what do you cover? Action, baby!

Oh yeah, way to go Ray. Come "home" from the DNC to save us before you fly off to Dallas again, you hack! I hope your helicopter crashes on the way from N.O. to Baton Rouge this time.

I haven't slept for two nights, and am exausted. If you live on a farm and have livestock and pets that have to be looked after like us, evacuating probably won't be an option. We didn't evacuate for Katrina, for the same reason. Luckly, the only damage we had was wind. The animals had a difficult time, even with me there, so I couldn't leave them on their own. Its time for us all (equine, bovine, canine, feline, and Leporidae)to take a pill and wait. I guess I'll take the consequences. Hope everyone else has no problems. My entire family (except me ofcourse) lives in slidell and all had their homes, and memories taken away by Katrina, so from that experience they've all left to avoid the contraflow debacle. I really wonder if Slidell can deal with another disaster. It looks like a ghost town now as it is.

I know it wasn't the hurricane itself that did the damage but the flo0ding as a result of the levees breaking and the heavy rain. The acts of some of the city's citizens didn't help things either, but weatherwise, the city has suffered enough. I have some dear friends there, I was there for a while myself and miss the city dearly. I know New Orleanians are a very resiliant bunch. Sadly Gustav lo0ks like it headed right for you. I hope the powers that be have really learned something as a result, and I still hold up hope that New Orleans can come out of this one.

We are here and the panic level is unbelievable 2-3 days out. Still, the people on the news are the people who would leave anyway. Sadly I think (I hope not, but think) we are destined for a repeat performance. Mayor Ray will be here until the last minute and go home to Dallas. Gov. Bobby will do his best against the Parish governments to do things right but will find his authority means nothing compared to sheriff numbnuts, Parish President Stupid and his gang who have money filtering through them on level one, and just the overall "what about our stuff" stupidity of some people. Also, I highly doubt the insurance companies will be so forgiving this time. Look at how many stores are moving inventory out. The businesses are saying it's because of flooding concern, but that's the sexy answer that won't make news. In reality, insurance doesn't cover looting. They are closing and moving stuff out to keep the idiots from stealing their stuff this time. If it comes, and you stay as a resident, you deserve what you get. It's not nice, but coming off what happened last time, it's time to be honest.

If you know its going to happen time and again, why live there.

I don't feel sorry for anyone thats mores back in there, nor do I feel sorry for those folks on the entire Gulf Coast that keep rebuilding.

The people of this country will tire of spending billions of tax payers money every couple of years.

Move it.

I'm listening to WWL up here in Bellingham, WA and sometimes, even I can't even understand the point of rebuilding and rebuilding. Even if it is home, it'll never be the same. There does come a time, like these days with global warming, sea levels rising and bigger and bigger hurricanes, when it's just more survivable and less costly to live on higher ground.

The insurance companies had a fit after Katrina and another hurricane like it is going to hurt. They may not even insure the Gulf anymore now because they almost went broke after Katrina.

I commend the wonderful response of the Governor of Louisiana, Mayor Nagin, WWL and sister stations and most especially, the people doing the REALLY serious work, like getting folks evacuated, shoreing up the levees, getting food and water out to the people, the cops and national guard keeping looters and the outright insane (those who think they can ride this out) in their place.

Hope the damage to New Orleans is minimal at worst and the casualties zero. But the ugly truth remains. Like smashedcd said, you can't keep expecting the government and insurance companies to keep bailing you out. Relocation is perhaps the inevitable solution. And besides in the end, home is not where you are, but who you're with.....

I wish everybody well......

I wanted to check in and let Y'all know that my prayers are with y'all today. Please heed the call to evacuate and do so in a safe manner. Stay safe and may God bless us all.

As a public servant relaying emergency information, we are honkered down and not leaving in Biloxi in case (like Katrina) a last minute eastward drift occurs. Be safe and say prayers!

Turth is, the insurance companies took a beating from numerous storms that year with Katrina the worst and Rita being second... However technically they didn't go broke. They just didn't want to tap the investors who made all the money during the low years to foot the bill in the high years. That's why insurance carries insurance.

Besides, if they stop insuring the gulf coast, this means they would have to stop insuring California, Tornado alley, and the eastern seaboard also as their risks become staggering from that every year.

RFLA

Bobby Jindal ROCKS! I have been watching him on the national news and am so proud of how he is handling this situation. Finally...a Governor Louisiana can be proud to call their own. What a change from Blanco. I will never forget the hurricane in which she left the state...supposedly to attend a "wedding". What a waste of space she was.

Nagin.......uh......whatever. All I can say is learn a lesson from your present Governor.

One suggestion for Governor Jindal...Place National Gaurd troops in the cities receiving the "evacuees". It is a crying shame that the residents of Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes have to worry more about being robbed/mugged than sustaining wind/water damage.

Turth is, the insurance companies took a beating from numerous storms that year with Katrina

The companies that provide Americans with their homeowners and auto insurance made a record $44.8-billion profit in 2005 even after accounting for the claims of policyholders wiped out by Hurricane Katrina and the other big storms of 2005, according to the firms’ filings with state regulators.

Top executives described the profit – an 18.7% increase over the previous year – as a fluke, the product of gains in other lines of insurance besides homeowners and a very good year for their investments.

Yeah a fluke. Hmmm...$44.98 billion, yup, that's almost broke...freakin' scammers gouging folks. Screw 'em.

this is exactly what i said back 'in 05 that i thought that you'd be giving new orleans a new name nuevo atlantis because it'll probilly sink but i thought that back then & i say this now, but hopefully it won't at least in my lifetime.

Amen Weedo Bro...while I still have power at 1145am. Those blood-sucking leaches have shown billion dollar profits since '05. I don't hear Congress bitching about those, just the oil companies. Maybe if the government would hold the insurance companies asses to the fire and pay the folks what they are insured for...just maybe taxpayers wouldn't have to foot the bill. If you had flood insurance and flooded, their adjusters (contracted out) would say it was wind or rain. If you had homeowers and no flood, they'd ram down your throat it was flood damage. A vicious circle and no payout.

So I guess your opinion about California when the "Big One" comes will be, when it falls into the Pacific, you hope they can swim? Let's just move the entire peninsula of Florida while we're at it. And if you live Kansas, move to Alaska, no tornadoes, just a hot looking governor. And remember, it's the government (Corp of Engineers) that are stuffing paper into the cracks of the 17th Street canal flood wall or did you see that? Time to go watch the wind. Been inside to long.
