Are you old enough to remember Dick Summer?

I was going through some of my junk from grade and high school and came across an autographed photo of Dick Summer from his WIBC days in the late 1950's. Brought back memories of being driven down to Merrill's High Decker drive-in by my friend's brother to see Dick do his program in the studio atop the restaurant. Whatever happened to the Man With the Wierd Beard? Summer went on the WBZ and NYC and I still hear his voice on the occasional commercial. Even Easy Gwynn had his own studio in the shopping center at 62nd and Keystone. I guess radio made lots of money back then what with all the studios, or maybe Mr. Fairbanks looked at things a little differently than owners do now.

Come to think of it, WISH's own Barney Pip spent a few evenings broadcasting from the Wasson's store Window.

Did I tell you the story of when we got to swim in Dick The Bruiser's pool?

But that was then and we are stuck in the now.

Google him...Dick Summer is still around doing voice-over work & has an ad agency. i remember him more from WISH Radio 1310, and his sarurday afternoon TV dance show on WISH TV 8 called "Rhythm Carnival" that was simulcast on WISH radio.
Summer left Indy in the early 60's, just before WISH became WIFE radio.

I remember Dick Summer and Barney Pip and WISH and "WIB-Cee". I even remember when WTTV was an ABC affiliate on channel 10. Francis Farmer anyone ?????

Removed ... I mis-read the previous post.

in the 50's & 60's WIBC was NOT really a Top-40 station by definition, yes they played a "few" top-40 hits but they were rather mainstream (by today's standards) as teenagers ANYONE who played a Top-40 song was what we listened to and that was good enough until WIFE came on the scene, they were more focused as a Top-40 and captured youth listenership, and even listening to old airchecks of WIFE they were tame, compared to WLS & WCFL in Chicago, then WNAP took it one step further on FM....
