Are You The WROR Fugitive?

Someone actually asked me that one today. I got to admit WROR's latest promotion is creating a lot of buzz! What will they think of next?

is this a contest that is solely WROR or is it one of those generic ideas that happen around the U.S.A. and they just licensed it for this region?

it's actually an idea that's been around for a long time. back in the 70's, i remember asking people if they had the concert tickets (it was either WVBF or WRKO). it's been done, at times, by lots of stations. some Maine stations do it all the time - first one i heard up there was in the early 80's on the old 'GAN-FM.

"...ask everyone you meet - everyone you see... are you... ?"

can't say for sure, but i don't believe it's a trade-marked/licensed promotion.

you have to be well into your 50's to remember "The Fugitive" TV show, and the Movie version with Harrison Ford/Tommy Lee Jones has to be 10 years old by now. Why did they use the fugitive for cripes sake?

I am not the fugitive, but I am potentially the father of Anna Nicole Smiths kid.

The Fugitive concept comes from an outside company. They come in, give you all the how-tos, do a website for you etc. Then the station airs it. It's a great idea, but no one on Morrissey Blvd. can take credit for thinking it up.

Who cares who can take credit for thinking it up?? If it's new, interesting and creative to the listeners, that's all that counts.

I think that they got themselves a good promotional campaign here, just as long as they don't over do it, I can see it being positive for them.

I think it was ricola coughdrops that was doing an advertising campaign like this in Boston (and around the country) for a million dollars...you had to offer some random coughing person if they wanted a ricola or something to that effect...pretty much the same concept, so it's been around for a while, just not on a local level

Its a very annoying contest to listen to. Ive switched back to Oldies 103 lately.

How is this working, are they at least saying "Today, the fugitive is somewhere near a gas station" or offering some clues? Or are you just supposed to harass everyone you see everywhere?

There are plenty of "clues" offered, and so far, some of the "fugitives" have been found.
