The problem with Alternative today is that it's either to hip for the room or to hard for extended listening. Alt stations that continually press the "anger" button are now endanger. Xtreme in Vegas and Cleveland have both pushed that Alt-Anger button for such a long time that they are missing true hits, not only on the current side but on the gold side as well. Why can't a station play Fatboy Slim "Praise You"? It still tests well with the audience. So why not? It's because it doesn't flow with the monotone alt-anger guys like Staind, Disturbed, and Avenged Seven-lame. I understand the Nickelback too. It's a great mass appeal song. Every one of those songs are hits, coupled with a pretty unique identity for a radio station, it could to very well. Remember Hot A/C is for people who are old who don't want to feel old, and Extreme is for the 21+ males who spend money on beer. I'm not sure who's in the Morning on Xtreme, if it's Stern, then they are just screwed and Area 108 turns into a brillant chess move.
